📣 World Hearing Day 3 March 2026
From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children 🎧👧👦

At Noosa Hearing we celebrate World Hearing Day and spotlight the importance of early identification, prevention and care for hearing in children.

This year’s global theme highlights the role that families, communities and schools play in helping kids hear, learn and succeed.

👂 Healthy hearing supports
• language and speech development
• learning and school participation
• confidence and connection
• long-term wellbeing

From childhood ear checks to community awareness, early and reliable hearing care makes a lifelong difference.

📍 At Noosa Hearing we offer:

✔ Comprehensive paediatric hearing assessments (4+ years)
Age-appropriate, play-based testing to measure how softly your child can hear across different pitches. This helps identify hearing loss early and ensures they are ready to listen, learn and thrive in the classroom.

✔ Video otoscopy
High-resolution imaging of the ear canal and eardrum displayed on screen. This allows us to detect wax blockage, infection or eardrum abnormalities and explain findings clearly to parents.

✔ Middle ear pressure testing (Tympanometry)
An objective test that assesses how well the middle ear system is functioning. It helps detect fluid (OME), Eustachian tube dysfunction or negative pressure, even when a child may not report symptoms.

✔ Speech audiometry
Measures how clearly your child can detect and understand speech, not just tones. This is critical for classroom listening, literacy development and communication confidence.

If you’re noticing changes in your child’s listening or communication, act early, we’re here to help. 💛

Hearing aids amplify sound.
Aural rehabilitation trains the brain. 🧠

At Noosa Hearing, we focus on more than devices. We help patients reconnect.

Aural rehab has been shown to:
• Leverage brain plasticity to strengthen listening pathways
• Reduce perceived hearing difficulty and support social integration
• Build communication confidence
• Improve listening in noise, reverberation and with fast or competing talkers
• Support cognitive skills like attention, processing speed and memory

When your brain learns to process sound more efficiently, conversations feel easier. Social events feel less draining. Confidence returns.

This is hearing care done properly.
Evidence-based. Structured. Personalised.

If you are wearing hearing aids but still struggling in noise, aural rehabilitation may be the missing piece.

🧠 Overall, this study underscores the importance of addressing hearing loss not only as a quality-of-life issue but also as an important factor in maintaining brain health and reducing the risk of dementia.

This cohort study investigates whether midlife hearing loss is associated with brain structure changes, cognitive function, and incident dementia.

Struggling with tinnitus at night?

Silence can make tinnitus feel louder.
Using gentle background sound while you sleep can help reduce the contrast between tinnitus and your environment, making it easier for your brain to switch off.

Think soft white noise, rainfall, or a sound generator at low volume.
Consistent, neutral sound often leads to better sleep and less night-time awareness of tinnitus.

🫶 We are excited to welcome Renee to the Noosa Hearing team as an Audiologist.

Renee comes from a background in education and chaplaincy, where caring for people and clear communication were central to her work.

Over recent years, she raised her children while living around Australia during her husband’s time in the Defence Force. The family has now settled on the Sunshine Coast, a place Renee has loved since childhood holidays.

Renee recently completed her Master of Audiology at Flinders University and gained experience supporting both children and adults.

She is looking forward to getting to know our local community.

💙 Welcome to the family Renee.

Noticing a loved one struggling to hear can be hard. Conversations feel tiring, social events become stressful, and misunderstandings creep in. But suggesting a hearing test doesn’t have to be awkward or confrontational — it can be an act of care.

At Noosa Hearing, we often hear from family members unsure how to start that conversation. The good news is that with empathy, patience, and the right approach, you can help someone take a positive first step towards better hearing and connection.

Here’s what our latest blog covers:
• Focus on how hearing changes are affecting everyday moments, not on criticism.
• Reframe the hearing test as a health check — similar to an eye or blood pressure test.
• Emphasise staying connected with family, friends, and community.
• Let them know there’s no pressure to commit to treatment — a test simply gives clarity.
• Offer to go with them for support.

A hearing test can provide peace of mind and open up possibilities for clearer communication and better quality of life.
