Supporting Carol Robertson on Her Ultramarathon Journey
In late July, one of our incredible physiotherapists, Carol Robertson, traveled to the USA to support fellow Kiwi runner James as he tackled the legendary Badwater 135 Ultramarathon. Known as one of the toughest foot races on the planet, the Badwater Ultramarathon spans 135 miles (217 km), beginning 282 feet below sea level in California's Death Valley and finishing at an elevation of 8,360 feet at Whitney Portal. Held annually in mid-July, the race is notorious for its extreme conditions, with daytime temperatures soaring to 130°F (54°C).
Carol played a vital role in James’s race, running approximately 80 km alongside him. She not only kept him hydrated and nourished but also provided on-the-go massages and helped him manage the intense desert heat.
And her journey doesn’t stop there.
This October, Carol will proudly represent New Zealand as part of the New Zealand 24hr Track Running Team at the World Championships in France. Representing your country on the world stage is a tremendous honour, but unfortunately, at the sub-elite level, there is no financial support from NZ Athletics (or Athletics Australia).
If you’d like to support Carol in her mission to represent Aotearoa with pride, you can contribute to her journey through the link below:
