My walk in the National park look…
My shoes on my hands!

Earthing. I do this so regularly now that I feel disconnected from both the ground and myself if I have shoes on.

It’s such a subtle feeling but nevertheless tangible, that when the soles of my feet touch the earth, I feel more a part of the Nature around me. 🌿🌳🌴🌱🍀

When you Earth, you absorb the natural electric charge from the Earth’s surface, known as free electrons.

These little charges have been researched to gift us a multitude of health benefits:

* reducing inflammation and chronic pain
* enhancing cardiovascular health
* strengthening your lower limbs, especially the small muscles of the feet which contribute to increased alignment, stability, balance and propulsion
* and even helping you sleep better.

If your feet don’t touch the earth much then find some time to make it happen and notice how you feel afterwards.

Posture doesn’t change in the future. It changes now.

Our bodies respond to what is happening in the present moment. When you bring awareness to how you’re standing, breathing and holding yourself now, unnecessary tension can soften, pain can ease and movement can become freer.

Try these three simple ways to be present and bring positive change to your posture NOW:
1. Body Adjustments: pause and feel before correcting. Make small, gentle adjustment guided by sensation, not effort.
2. Breath: allow the breath to deepen and movement freely within you. Natural breathing supports spinal length, strength and ease.
3. Relaxation: let go of excess tension. As holding patterns release, posture refines itself.

When you meet your body in the present, posture becomes lighter, more fluid and far less painful.

Happy New Year from me and Karana Posture! ✨🌟✨⭐️💫

It’s been a while since I posted… a busy time of managing clients on the Karana Posture Program and a stepping back from excess activities which meant that Social Media was temporarily put to pasture.

As much as I love posting and the connecting with you here, it does take time, as I’m sure all of you know.

But, I’m back and looking forward to each new day. My motto or theme this year is like the lizard who can drop its tail… to keep letting go of the past, repeatedly, with conscious choice, over and over again and to approach every moment as a new opportunity to choose the highest choice in each and every moment, to create, to love, to connect and to shine.

Here’s a testimonial of one of my recent Posture “graduates”:
“I was recommended to Kara for a hip and postural issue. After doing her Karana Posture Program I can now highly recommend Kara. Through her dedicated care I have made very good progress. I was very impressed with Kara and her professionalism. Thank you Kara. With gratefulness.” Geoff R.

“The journey of the Psoas is from holding to allowing, from effort to ease. As it softens, the spine may once again rest into its natural curves, the breath is also freed and posture becomes not a position to maintain but a state of balance and presence.

Yes, the Psoas lies at the heart of presence - gifting us with an inner poise that reflects harmony within”.

Writing about the Psoas as I complete the exercise descriptions for the Karana Posture Series in the book.

The journey continues. 😊

Happy Thursday.

Breathe space into your being…

One of the best “exercises” you can do is to simply lay down… in a specific way.

Today on my blog I share this one simple exercise to restore your posture, balance and natural vitality.

A simple embodied practice to reconnect body, breath and spirit.

The key areas of the body that suffer from our forgetfulness of our body posture on a day to day basis are the hips, spine and shoulders. We lose our ability to open up and extend backwards… opening the front of the hips, the spine and the reach of our shoulders behind the side plane of the body.

This passive stretch is a game changer in so many ways.

Read all about it in my blog.

See the link in my Bio for details: “One of the Best ‘Exercises’ You Can Do.”

Ten minutes a day could transform your body, your breath and your presence.

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”
~ Carl Jung

Many times it’s not that we need to apply ourselves in an effortfull way or to strive to be all of who we are, but rather to subtly and steadily let all that we are not fall away.

Stretching, yoga, posture and conscious, meditative movement practices all help to liberate the energies that are ready to be transformed or let go of.

I know for certain that movement is integral to becoming whole, who you truly are.

Inspo for your weekend…
Happy weekend.

You might not be as bad as you think!

Meaning, your poor posture, that you’re beating yourself up about or suffering the consequences of - such as aches, pains and headaches - may not just be your bad habits.

Mobility underlies good posture. So for example if you’re tight in your thoracic spine and it’s limited in extension, you’re naturally going to slump. The tissue tension through the front of the spine and chest will pull you forward.

Then we have to ask the question about the chicken and egg… “which came first?”… the stiff spine or the poor posture? Because one begets the other.

So my point is, if you’re in pain and you know that poor posture is a part of the picture don’t just think I need to straighten up more of the time. You need to stretch and move your spine and restore range of motion … in the right places.

Food for thought for your Thursday. And of course, I’m here if you need some help determining where and how to stretch effectively.

Happy Thursday.

Happy Spring Equinox!

The days become longer than the nights…
How can you put the extra daylight to some good use for your body?

The light grows…
What area of your body needs a little more attention, conscious love, opening or lightness?

The heat intensifies…
What poor habits can you let go of and allow to be alchemized in the fire?

Looking forward to summer days. 💛

With love from Great Keppel. 🐬🐠🐋

Here’s a few moments of my recent trip to the island with the wonderful Salties - my ocean swim group - and with and

We landed on my birthday to stunning blue skies and turquoise waters and then it was one adventure after another…

Swimming, snorkelling and visiting the multiple beaches around the island…

The kind of barefoot 👣 timeless island immersion 🌴 with loads of laughter 😄 and friendship 💞 sharing rustic Glamping tents ⛺️ sunset drinks 🌅 a sneaky afternoon cocktail 🍸 (Margarita of course!), communal cooking and dining 🍤 songs 🎶 and card games around the fire 🔥 and lazy afternoons reading, sleeping or relaxing under a tree. 🌿

It was such a joy to spend time with all the Salties. They / we are a true testament to the power of being active and connected with others and Mother Nature and the health that follows in body, mind and spirit. I’m so grateful for this group in my life.
Bring on the next trip!

The cause of a lot of pain and suffering whether it’s physical (aches and pains), energetic (“I’m sooo tired”) or emotional (vulnerability, sadness, irritation, anger, holding onto grief, past hurts and so on) is a disconnection with your body.

Sensation or feeling is the language of your body.

Our ability to discern the subtle oceans and streams of perceptible sensation is infinite. We all have access to SOME of our bodies messages such as hunger or the urge to urinate.

But the realm of sensation goes way beyond these basic functions.

And the key to both our comfort AND our peace of mind is in the fine-tuning of our sensory perception.

When we develop a clearer pathway between our awareness and body sensation we both stimulate our natural healing AND make better choices to look after our physical and energetic wellbeing.

When you TRULY FEEL you will no longer OVERRIDE your body’s signals and feelings and you will NATURALLY move towards greater HEALTH and HAPPINESS.

Start your journey to greater inner connection now by simply stopping, resting in a seated or supine position and feeling whatever sensation is present in your body.

Your mind will wander.

Gently return your awareness to your body’s sensations over and over again.

You might be surprised just how pleasurable and relaxing this practice is.

The first step to embodying better posture is also better body awareness. Posture is a path inwards to so much more than a tall spine.

Can you feel this in your own body…

“Be still like a mountain and flow like a great river”.
~Lao Tzu

One of my all time favourite quotes, these profound words by the master of Taoism, describe the holistic duality of postural alignment (stillness) and mobility (flow).

You can’t have one without the other!

They are both intertwined and ever-present like Feminine and Masculine, Yin and Yang.

I invite you on this Monday to tune into your body and ask what you’re needing more of today. To sit or stand in more tall, centred, calm alignment… or to open your body and stretch your limits of mobility?
Happy Monday.

“Consider the trees which allow the birds to perch and fly away without either inviting them to stay or asking them never to depart. If your heart can be like this, you will be near to the way.”
~ Zen saying.

Chest and spinal opening practices literally open our hearts to a more Zen life.

Open to receive.

Open to let go.

Releasing us from excessive grasping or from holding on when the ‘Autumn’ season has arrived.

Keeping your chest upright, avoiding slumping, on a daily basis is one way to embody this practice.

Or try this gentle opener at home. Lay on your bed with one pillow under your knees and another under your chest. Rest your head back on the bed and spread your arms out wide. Lay here and breathe slowly, rhythmically and deeply for 10-15 minutes. You’ll arise feeling refreshed, upright, calm and more receptive towards others and open to whatever life brings you in the next moment.
