After the rains …

The continuing rains!

Park walks have been lush lately, little streams of water appearing where they don’t usually flow.

I could hear the waters trickling through the forest floor and spilling out onto the tracks.

Dusk is one of my favourite times to walk as the day fades. I can feel the quiet descend upon the land and from there, within me.

Life is sweet.

It’d be a damp walk this morning here! The skies are pouring. But keep this quote in mind the next time you go out and look for the added gifts your walk offers.

You can’t feel your deep postural muscles working…

But you know when they are, because you feel effortlessly relaxed.

You also feel stronger because your power muscles have more energy to work better.

Do you carry a lot of tension in your body?

It could be that your postural muscles are weak.

Tension isn’t the way of Nature.

Nature gifted us with perfectly designed muscles to support us effortlessly in space.

They’re small, deep, rich in blood supply and are ready to work for hours without overtime… when you’re in good alignment.

Poor postural alignment distorts and overloads these quietly humming muscle fibres rendering them less effective and you feeling tight and sore.

Think alignment. Stack your spine and limbs well. And you’ll experience more lightness and freedom in your body.

Had fun recently taking my Salty’s swim group for some yoga in the park.

Many of our swimmers are avid athletes, running, cycling and weight training regularly.

Flexibility training or stretching I find, are always the missing component. So whilst we did some traditional yoga poses, my main focus was on opening, lengthening, elasticising the tissues.

Flexibility with good muscle tone gives you RESILIENCE and ADAPTABILITY.

Pain often persists in your body not because you’re broken but because you’re absent. We override sensation, rush through discomfort, or chase ideal positions without listening.

And often times, we become numb to the rivers of sensory feedback coursing through the body.

My walk in the National park look…
My shoes on my hands!

Earthing. I do this so regularly now that I feel disconnected from both the ground and myself if I have shoes on.

It’s such a subtle feeling but nevertheless tangible, that when the soles of my feet touch the earth, I feel more a part of the Nature around me. 🌿🌳🌴🌱🍀

When you Earth, you absorb the natural electric charge from the Earth’s surface, known as free electrons.

These little charges have been researched to gift us a multitude of health benefits:

* reducing inflammation and chronic pain
* enhancing cardiovascular health
* strengthening your lower limbs, especially the small muscles of the feet which contribute to increased alignment, stability, balance and propulsion
* and even helping you sleep better.

If your feet don’t touch the earth much then find some time to make it happen and notice how you feel afterwards.

Posture doesn’t change in the future. It changes now.

Our bodies respond to what is happening in the present moment. When you bring awareness to how you’re standing, breathing and holding yourself now, unnecessary tension can soften, pain can ease and movement can become freer.

Try these three simple ways to be present and bring positive change to your posture NOW:
1. Body Adjustments: pause and feel before correcting. Make small, gentle adjustment guided by sensation, not effort.
2. Breath: allow the breath to deepen and movement freely within you. Natural breathing supports spinal length, strength and ease.
3. Relaxation: let go of excess tension. As holding patterns release, posture refines itself.

When you meet your body in the present, posture becomes lighter, more fluid and far less painful.
