𝐍𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡. ⁣

Not now, not ever.⁣⁣

Your worth is measured in smiles, kindness, laughter, creativity, and strength. ⁣⁣
It’s measured by your love, and how you choose to live your life- not by some number on a scale, or some number in a dress… ⁣⁣

If you struggle with this, please know that it’s not your fault, and you aren’t alone. ⁣

We have been taught that we need to prove our worthiness through external validation, ideas and messages. It is so engrained in our society and it takes a lot of courage to let go of all these beliefs– but by learning to find validation and worthiness within, you can create the life that you want to live and become the person you are meant to be, before the world and diet culture told you who you had to be.⁣⁣

Here’s to owning your worth, always ❤️

Diet culture and the ‘thin ideal’ became rampant at the same time women were making the greatest political gains in history, such as reproductive freedom, and the right to vote and work outside the home.⁣

Diet culture keeps us so distracted that we don’t have the brain space or energy to pursue our dreams or fight for the things that truly matter. It takes our money and directly profits off the vulnerabilities and insecurities that they created.⁣

For years, I had no idea what diet culture was and how harmful it is.⁣

This is because it is so normalised, and it is absolutely everywhere. I spent years stuck in the narrative, believing that I wasn’t good enough or worthy, chasing something I couldn’t attain, living a truth that wasn’t my own but had been constructed for me.⁣

Learning about diet culture was the only way I was able to break the narrative and start living my life my way.⁣

This might be the first time you are learning about it, too, and the reason I am sharing this with you is because I want you to know that your body has never been the problem; diet culture is the problem. ⁣

You were not born hating your body – you were taught to hate it by a multi-billion-dollar industry⁣

Learning the truth can help you break free so that you can take your power back – and that is the ultimate victory of all ✌️⁣

I used to think about food 99.99% of my day.⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I was SO hungry, I couldn’t concentrate AT ALL. I couldn’t enjoy anything without thinking about food. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Now I know that it was the food restriction that was making me so hungry and obsessed. And the longer I restricted, the hungrier and more obsessed I became. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you can’t stop thinking about food, then this is a clear signal from your body that you aren’t eating enough. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The only way to overcome this is to eat 👏⁣
⁣⁣
As soon as I started eating enough, I stopped thinking about food for 99.99% of my day, my hunger signals regulated and my constant drive to eat disappeared. ⁣⁣

I also got my life back 🙌⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Eating is self-care – and you can’t live a full life on an empty stomach ❤️

One of the biggest lies diet culture has told you is that your body is not meant to change.⁣

Bodies ARE meant to change, from puberty to adulthood, through pregnancy and menopause, and again as we get older – not to mention all the other changes that come with so many other varied lifestyle changes and factors (pandemics, hormones, stress, divorce, grief, illness etc). and the fact that bodies change. Full stop.⁣

Your body is not meant to stay the same.⁣

It goes through ebbs and flows as you go through the ebbs and flows of life.⁣

Please know that body changes are normal.⁣

I encourage you to give deep care and respect to the body you have right now – not the body you had last year, not the body you had 10 years ago, and not the body you hope you might have one day.⁣

It is a much more freeing place to be than fighting against your body for the rest of your life. I promise.⁣

And never forget no matter how much your body changes, your worth, your value, and who you are, that never changes ❤️⁣

The image of the ‘perfect body’ is a social construct taught to us by diet culture.⁣

If we weren’t told to hate our cellulite and belly rolls, we wouldn’t spend most of our lives (and money) trying to ‘fix’ what we think is wrong. ⁣

Diet culture is selling us a solution to a problem it created 🙃⁣

I want you to know that it’s perfectly normal and okay to have cellulite, to have stretch marks, to have scars, to have belly rolls, and not to weigh what you did in high school. ⁣⁣

One of the ways I was able to come to a place of peace with my body was to understand that these beliefs were created by a multi-billion-dollar industry whose sole purpose was to make me believe that I wasn’t good enough, and that I will never be good enough, so they could continue profiting from me.⁣ ⁣ ⁣

For you to truly heal and find peace with your body, I encourage you to dig deeper into where these messages come from.⁣ ⁣⁣

Never forget that your body has never been the problem. Diet culture is the problem. ⁣

I still remember it like it was yesterday.⁣

I had just turned 31. After years of being too scared to try and get pregnant from my eating disorder, I was finally ready after 4 years of recovery.⁣

I excitedly came off birth control and waited for my periods to return... but nothing....⁣

6 months passed and there was still no sign of them. ⁣

I was eventually diagnosed with a condition called hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA).⁣

HA is where the hypothalamus (a small area in the centre of the brain that controls hormone production) temporarily stops working, usually due to stress, dieting and over-exercise.⁣

HA not only prevents you from having a period, but can also cause bone, heart and fertility issues as well as psychological problems.⁣

I also didn’t know that birth control can mask HA; in fact, I didn’t even know that birth control doesn’t give you a real period! ⁣

I had to stop all high-intensity exercise and gain weight to try and recover.⁣

After 2 years of trying, my periods still didn’t return and I needed fertility treatment so that I could have my son, Bryn.⁣

It was a very emotional and challenging time for me.⁣

When I saw ’s instagram post about her osteopenia and the damage that years of dieting had done to her, I wanted to share my story of what dieting had done to me too.⁣

HA, like osteopenia, is rarely spoken about as a side effect of under-eating.⁣

I was still young enough and had the time to recover, but not everyone is in the same position.⁣
⁣vee has written an amazing article for about this and all the side effects of dieting that rarely get spoken about. ⁣

As today is , please join me in sharing this far and wide. We have to get the message out there on what dieting does to our bodies. Link in my bio to read & share.⁣ ⁣

Exercising only to lose weight demotivates us, takes the enjoyment out of it and give us a negative relationship with exercise. It can also lead to depressive symptoms, low self-esteem, disordered eating and poor body image.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I encourage you to take the focus away from your weight, and focus on some non- weight loss goals instead.⁣ You’ll not only enjoy it more, but are more likely to stick to it long term.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I have shared a few fun ones for inspo. ⁣

Do you have any to add?⁣

Photos can be one of the most challenging parts of being at peace with our bodies.⁣

Unfortunately, we are our own worst enemy and automatically criticise how we look, but ⁣
what you don’t see in that photo is what everyone else sees- your happiness, your kindness, your bravery, your strengths- the sparkle that draws people to you.⁣

If you could see yourself through the eyes of your loved ones, then you will know how special you truly are. ⁣

Everything people see and love about you has NOTHING to do with the shape of your body– they love you for how you make them feel, what you do for them, how you support them, how you show up for them and how you make them laugh. They love you for you.⁣

I promise you when your loved ones look back at these photographs, they won’t care about your body or what you look like, they will just be so grateful that they have those happy moments to cherish forever ❤️⁣

Happy 2nd birthday to my book! 🎉⁣

I can’t believe it’s been 2 years!⁣

Swipe to some of my highlights. ⁣

It was so hard to choose out of so many. I’m so incredibly grateful.⁣

But mostly, I want to THANK YOU.⁣

Thank you for your support, for being here, for absolutely everything.⁣

It means so much to me ❤️❤️❤️❤️⁣
