This story emphasises the dangers of the rapid growth of the Pilates industry. Ever larger classes on cheaper equipment, with little, or in some instances, no, supervision is a recipe for more serious injuries. The Pilates Principles of Awareness, Precision, Concentration, Breath, Control, and Flow are lost in the drive to make the classes harder, faster, with more complex exercises that are only part of the advanced repertoire for very experienced practitioners. At Physio + Pilates Noosa we keep to 3-4 per class, with the supervision of either a physio with full Pilates certification, or instructors who have undergone comprehensive training of up to 2 years in length - not a weekend course! This is why we keep our groups small, maintain our equipment and springs, and keep our eyes on you. Our instructors are fully-qualified through extensive training courses of up to 2 years in length and have comprehensive insurance. Watching the Pilates world expand so rapidly, with little regulation, makes me fearful that these injuries will become more commonplace. The Pilates Principles of Awareness, Breath, Concentration, Precision, Control, and Flow are becoming lost in the drive to get more numbers in classes with minimal supervision. The focus is on harder, faster, more complex exercises without even basic understanding of the Pilates method - injury will follow.

Introducing the latest team member at Physio plus Pilates Noosa- The lovely Gemma. Gemma teaches the Monday afternoon mat class and is starting a new Reformer /Mat combo class on Wednesdays at 12:30. There will be 6 in the class and it is 45 mins in length. This is a fitness- based class so it is the perfect addition to your regular studio classes (provided you are injury-free.)

So proud of our Liz - only 4 weeks after a Total Knee Replacement, she was able to get back on the Reformer to do footwork with good range of movement and minimal pain. Although we do our best at Physio + Pilates to help people avoid joint replacement surgery, sometimes it is inevitable. In liz's case, she had twisted her knee and torn a ligament, making her knee unstable and she was barely able to walk. Her years of Pilates work helped her bounce back quickly from surgery, with good Quads strength and mobility. Why not try Pilates first if you are contemplating joint replacement surgery - even if you can't escape the knife, maybe your recovery will be as good as Liz's!😘

A happy snap! Our lovely Kim who left us for the wilds of Port Douglas (to manage the Regal resort) has just become a Grandma to Louis James. He is a lucky boy to have such a special Grandma - a pity bubba is in Bli Bli not in Port Douglas. I can see a lot of Facetiming coming up. Mum Lauren is doing so well, she wants 9 more babies!!! Kim feels this may change in a little while 🤣🥰👼Hopefully we will get to see them both in November when things a little quieter in the far north and she can have a break. Love from all at P+P

Moet's version of the Cat Stretch! Only a small number of groups such as gymnasts, contortionists, and ballet dancers can match cat flexibility, and they are the only ones that need it! Some people are afraid to try pilates because they think they are not flexible enough. However, only a small number of the advanced pilates exercises require that type of excessive muscle length. The true beauty of Pilates is that it can be adapted to all abilities. At Physio Plus Pilates Noosa we aim to get you moving freely enough to put on your shoes, pick up your children(or grandchildren), hit a golf or tennis ball without groaning, not scratch your ear with your toes!
