ActivateBody was founded by Dr Viktoria Molloy and Tom Molloy in 2016 and this is a brief history:
We moved to the Sunshine Coast from Melbourne 4 years ago. Dr Vik has been a physio for 20 years, and has explored many different areas of her profession including research (having done her PhD in low back pain 12 years ago); expert consulting for government and insurance companies; sports physio an
d private practice work – but her main interest has always been health and exercise. Tom has had an interesting journey, having studied accounting and worked as an institutional banker in Melbourne, and then moving to running our own solar business, but like Vik, his heart has also been in exercise, sport and fitness. We have both had our own injury and health journeys – Tom had a promising future as a track athlete and AFL player but these dreams were cut short due to knee injuries in his teens and early 20s. Vik has always loved endurance sports including running and rowing, and experienced her own health complications with having our 3 wonderful children (Oscar, Chloe and Charlie). We both know what it is like to perform at a high level, and we both understand what it feels like when this is not possible. With this in mind, after much personal exploring and countless courses in health, fitness, nutrition, breath coaching, extreme performance coaching, swimming coaching – we have come across what we believe is the right formula for people who are “Over 40”. We were so sick of people hurting themselves when they exercised in other locations in the area; we were upset by people giving up on their bodies with excuses that they were “too old” and “can’t run anymore; can’t surf anymore” that we explored what was out there and have developed our SMART Program – which stands for Strength, Movement, All-Body, Resistance Training – a sustainable exercise program that makes people fitter, stronger, and prevents injuries – instead of causing them! We started providing this program down the road and knew we were onto something good. Sunshine Beach really felt like home and after a few other locations that were not the right fit we knew that Sunshine Beach was the village for us. Then COVID hit- we pivoted our business rapidly and were really fortunate that Dr Vik had a large amount of experience in telehealth research; and Tom had a lot of IT knowledge that we could quickly convert our studio at home into an online clinic and exercise studio. We would really like to thank our loyal supporters who stuck with us in this period on a daily basis – it really was a special time connecting through Zoom. And it was these supporters that also gave us the courage to start our ActivateBody Physio and Exercise Studio – we thought we may continue with the online business model, but our clients wanted the real life experience. And fortunately for us the perfect space in Sunshine Beach was up for lease and here we are now!! In addition to this clinic – which we have designed as a place of healing and strength for people to come and recover from their injuries and progress to feeling strong and doing the things that they love – we have also started some community groups. When we arrived in Noosa Tom found his passion in stand up paddle boarding and really wanted to find a group of paddle boarders to hang out with and share the stoke. As a result of this, Tom has created the Noosa SUP Crew (which paddles on a Wednesday from Lions Park). Dr Vik also missed her Hawthorn Running Group and has now started the ActivateBody Sunshine Beach Run Group which leaves at 6am from the clinic every Monday. Both of these are free groups to join and attend and we really want to create groups that we were looking for when we moved up here. We invite each and everyone of you to join these groups and meet like minded ActivateBody clients on the hills or on the water.
