Even the pursuit of happiness and joy are potential causes of suffering if we become attached to them.
In Ayurveda, happiness and joy are regarded as objects of experience, similar to pain and suffering. When we become aware of the subtle difference between the experiencer (the subject) and the experience (the object), what emerges is the correct understanding of what is, and what is happening. At this point we are able to apply the correct intelligence, including the body’s natural intelligence to heal itself, to cultivate an experience that effortlessly produces a natural by-product of joy and happiness.
Happiness, joy and wellbeing are not items to be pursued. They simply emerge when we are able to perceive the objects of our experience clearly without identifying with or getting lost in them.
The observer, simply observing in the absence of mental, emotional and physical objection towards the experience.
This requires active attention, intelligence, correct knowledge, willingness, effort, right action and above all else, letting go of what you think you know to be true. All of which are inherent instruments within the living being.
The objective of Ayurveda and Yoga is to encourage us to come into right relation with the framework that exist within this witnessing mind body complex.
We will be exploring this topic in detail next week Durng our mind body soul series.
