On Monday 18 Nov meeting the Rotary Club of Cooroy had the pleasure of hearing from Kellie from Kanyini Collective.
Founder and CEO of the Hoofbeats Sanctuary in Doonan Barb Blashki felt that after Covid more needed to be done for the community regarding their mental health and well- being. Barb put to the board the idea of a social enterprise to provide programs that could help and support them. It was accepted and the Kanyini Collective was born.
Kanyini is a Pitjantjatjara (Indigenous Australian) word that means to support, nurture, protect and care for others. This is exactly what the Kanyini Collective believe, and their aim is for everyone on the Sunshine Coast, regardless of financial challenges to be able to access their services.
These services cover a variety of areas such as Mental Health, Holistic Healing, Meditation and Yoga (various styles) and many other wellness programs.
They keep their costs low, with many services provided by volunteers. If you are a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card holder you can request a Pay-it Forward Pass.
These passes, funded by generous community members, allow you to attend classes that you might otherwise not be able to afford.
How to access these services: You can self- refer or ask your doctor for a referral. Their commitment as a social enterprise, while they aim to make a profit, all proceeds are reinvested to fund free mental health programs at Kanyini Collective and their partner initiative, Hoofbeats Sanctuary in Doonan. They also have rooms for hire (for regular or one-off events and meetings). Paint and Sip events also a Gift Shop.
