Today I found myself re-reading 'Supporting those who are left behind'. This document is a go to for anyone working with clients experincing ambigious loss. Ambigous loss is the term given when a loss that isn't clear. When we don't know what happened to the person we lost or when a person is still in our lives but no longer as we once knew them.
Closure is hard and families are often divided in the way they process and react to this type of loss. While reading this I came across an all too familiar quote from the wonderful Judith Herman about processing trauma.
