Thoughtful Thursday
So I came across this Huberman Labs podcast about anxiety. There is a piece of music called Weightless by Marconi Union (an ambient music band from Manchester) which is as effective as a benzo in reducing anxiety!

If you're struggling to recover from the fallout of the festivities, give it a listen. ๐Ÿ‘‚

Thoughtful Thursday
We learn how to eat ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅฌ
The latest National Health Survey released this month has some interesting insights into the eating habits of Australians. Only 1 in 15 adults met the recommended vegetable intake with females more likely to do so. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Learning to eat is a skill just like any other. We are taught how to do this as we journey from being a univore (eating one type of food e.g. breastmilk) to an omnivore (eating a variety of food). We need to be taught which foods are safe and nutritious for us to eat because humans are naturally neophobic. Itโ€™s a protective mechanism that keeps us from poisoning ourselves.

Our food choices are also influenced by:
- biological determinants such as appetite, and taste
- economic determinants such as cost, income, availability
- physical determinants such as access, education, skills (e.g. cooking) and time
- social determinants such as culture, family, peers and meal patterns
- psychological determinants such as mood, stress and guilt
- attitudes, beliefs and knowledge about food

Take time to think about your food choices and where they come from because we can only change what weโ€™re aware of (Deepak Chopra).

Thoughtful Thursday
In todayโ€™s world thereโ€™s a lot of โ€˜noiseโ€™, especially on social media, from people trying to influence behaviour in some way (yes, Iโ€™m aware of the irony as Iโ€™m rowing that boat too ๐Ÿ˜ณ). All this noise can be overwhelming, contributing to anxiety and depression. With clients Iโ€™ll often refer to 'paddock theory', which is the idea everyone has a metaphorical paddock which contains people we care about. If someone who is not in your paddock, says something about you or tries to pressure you, they havenโ€™t earned your care, so you can dismiss it. Remember paddock fences are boundaries we use not only to keep people out, but also to decide who we let in.

Give it a go. Itโ€™s liberating! ๐Ÿ˜Š
