Determined2® Pty Ltd (D2) is a dynamic and innovative South Australian business specialising in the provision of Immersion Therapy ™ to people with a disability or injury. Immersion Therapy was conceived and developed by D2 Managing Director Peter Wilson, a seriously injured worker, and is a world-leading approach that uses SCUBA equipment to allow people with a wide range of disabilities to participate in movement-based activities in an underwater environment.
Immersion Therapy has demonstrated a wide range of benefits including improved mental health, improved limb function and reduced pain. In some cases, it allows people that are normally immobile to move with the assistance of buoyancy, improving physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
D2’s stated mission is to “Liberate the human spirit by assisting people with a disability discover the joy of freedom of movement and achieving something they never thought possible”. It is based on the principle that people living with an injury or disability are best placed to help people living with an injury or disability.
D2 has grown rapidly since commencing in 2015 and currently operates 5 days per week at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre. D2 provides 170-180 individual therapy sessions each month with an expectation to grow this to 230 by early 2019.
Clients typically access the service as a part of their rehabilitation and support services funded through NDIS, Return to Work SA, SA Lifetime Support Authority or other similar organisation, with all of whom D2 has built strong relationships. D2 has also developed partnerships with Uni SA and SA Health to objectively measure the benefits of Immersion Therapy. D2 is also collaborating with Konekt and last year launched the ‘Goals to Recovery’ project to provide injured workers with a pathway to work in disability services and the broader community with great success.
