In Indian astrology, the summer solstice is seen as a time of increased solar energy associated with the sun’s power and illumination. It is a natural time to focus on personal growth and into reigniting a sense of purpose.

Summer solstice can be a time to reflect on the year that is passing and to consider if we used 2025 to move in the direction we had hoped to, or did we get sidetracked?

It is important to be mindful about how to move forward in 2026. It’s so easy for the days, weeks, and months to ending up merging and sometimes we look back and think, oh whoa, what did I really achieve this year? Am I dealing with stress better, am I any more peaceful, am I healthier? Or have I just been busier than ever? It’s never too late to make changes, even small ones.

The summer solstice is on December 21st, which is also our last Sunday kirtan of the year. We are holding a Summer Solstice Sacred Meditation Special Event and you are invited! Will you make it?

It will be a wonderful evening of chanting meditation, a home cooked vego dinner, and spiritual nourishment to recharge you from the core.

Bookings essential for catering. $12 appreciated. Starts at 6pm.

A time of stress or renewed spiritual connection?

This time of the year can remind us of the original reason that Christmas was considered a special time, which was to celebrate the appearance on earth two thousand years ago of an exalted spiritual teacher who's profound and life changing message was love, forgiveness, and kindness.

Even though Christmas is now promoted as a materialistic event, – buy, buy, buy, Jesus taught that we are the soul within the body, and as such we will not find happiness and fulfillment in material things – just the opposite of the message of the merchants and advertisers. It's worth us considering who has our best interest at heart and who we should aim to listen to if we want to be happier!

For many people Christmas, instead of being a time of renewed spiritual connection, it becomes a stressful time – lots to do, organize and plan, and it can be easy to get caught up in the busyness and obligations that Christmas can bring.

One of the profound and practical teaching from Jesus was regarding stress, worry and anxiety – deal with today – don’t project your mind into worrying about tomorrow or into the unknown future.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Jesus Christ

We might skim read that sentence, but if we contemplate this quote and try to apply it to our daily lives, we will definitely experience less stress. We will be able to focus on today and leave off worrying about the future and things out of our control.

There are fundamental spiritual teachings which are common to all authentic spiritual paths regardless of the label attached to them. For example, if we add any of Jesus’ teachings to our lives, (his foremost teaching is to love God, love others, do to others what you would have them do to you, and be forgiving), then we will experience a deeper sense of spiritual happiness, purpose, connectedness, and peace in our mind and heart.

~~~~~~~~
I hope you can join us for our last Sunday kirtan of the year on December 21, which also happens to be the Summer Solstice! Starts at the normal time of 6pm and includes dinner ❤ Bookings essential for catering. I hope to see you there!
“It gets me down, and I feel overwhelmed and helpless.” This is a sentiment we may feel when we see what’s going on in the world around us. Seeing suffering, conflict, injustices, so much violence and exploitation, we can feel quite overwhelmed by it all.
But yoga wisdom always has a solution, so let’s look at what we can do.
We are living in what is called Martya Loka, the material world where conflict and the laws of material nature are inescapable. For example, birth, disease, old age, death, karma, suffering caused by nature and other living entities is intrinsic. Since we originate from and belong in the spiritual world, where there is no time or suffering, these material laws feel unnatural.
But understanding our true spiritual nature and the spiritual nature of all living beings (that we are eternal spiritual souls only temporarily in a material body experiencing material things), we can see things in a different light.
We can also understand that for most of us, there is nothing we can do to truly change what is going on in the world. But we don’t need to. Each and every one of us can make small changes that will help one person, or have a ripple effect to help many people.
There is a story that I have shared before, but I will share it again because it perfectly illustrates this point.
One day, a small boy was at the beach with his grandfather. There were small creatures washed up on the beach, millions of them. The little boy bent down and picked up one and threw it back in the ocean, and the grandfather said to him, “What did you do that for? It’s not going to make any difference. Look!” Pointing in the direction of millions of them on the beach. And the little boy said, “It made a difference to that one.”
Powerful, eh?
So instead of feeling overwhelmed, we can instead be reminded of our spiritual nature and the true identity of all living entities, and we can find ways to show kindness and care to those around us.
And of course, regularly engaging in the powerful practice of mantra meditation acts like a soothing balm to our weary hearts, cleansing away worry and stresses, and filling us up with spiritual nourishment and happiness.
Can Yoga Keep You Safe❓
Yoga Asanas and Functional Movement: Enhancing Natural Movement Patterns for Lifelong Health 💪💃🍏
Functional movement patterns refer to the natural and fundamental actions humans perform daily, such as squatting, lunging, bending, pushing, pulling, and rotating. These movements are essential for maintaining strength, flexibility, and coordination, contributing directly to physical health and overall well-being.
However, when these movements are performed incorrectly – or when strength and mobility are lacking – pain, dysfunction, and injury can follow. Here, yoga asana plays a crucial corrective role: it improves mobility and flexibility, strengthens underused muscles, corrects imbalances, and fosters body awareness, helping the body move more efficiently and safely.
👉For example the strength and flexibility required to squat underlies many daily activities, from sitting to lifting. A deep yoga squat practiced regularly will help improve stability, posture and balance, all critical factors for long-term mobility, especially with aging.
👉Lunging patterns play a crucial role in movements like stepping forward, climbing stairs, and rising from the ground. Yoga postures such as Crescent Moon, Low Lunge and the Warrior poses effectively target the hip flexors, quadriceps and hamstrings which are key muscles essential for these actions. Strengthening these areas can enhance mobility, refine walking and running mechanics, and help prevent common lower-body injuries.
👉Flexibility underpins functional movement, allowing joints to move freely and muscles to work efficiently. Downward-facing dog stretches the calves, hamstrings and spine, supporting daily actions like bending and reaching. Lunges stretch our hip flexors and hamstrings, which can counter the effects of prolonged sitting and reduce back pain. Rotation in poses like seated spinal twist protect the spine and support us in turning, lifting and reaching.
This is just scratching the surface, but it will hopefully offer you inspiration to continue (or start!) your yoga asana practice and support your body’s well-being. 🧡
We have 9 morning and evening classes to choose from, affordable prices, supportive teachers and a friendly and welcoming space.
We hope to see you in studio soon! 🙏
Changing our attitude and perspective can change our life!✨
Is the cup half full or half empty? ☕
We can cause ourselves much mental agitation, distress and misery by feeling ungrateful or by expecting things to be a certain way (and being disappointed when they turn out differently).
The Vedic and yoga system teaches the concept of humility and gratitude. With the spiritual quality of humility, we feel appreciation and gratitude for what we have, and therefore feel more peaceful. 🌿
Instead of having the attitude of, “What can I get out of life?”, we can have the attitude of “What can I contribute to the well-being of others?”
This disposition will bring about a more fulfilling life.
Take a moment to reflect on something you have been feeling ungrateful for, and then consider how you could have an attitude shift in a positive direction. 🌸
We all need protection…
Each of us will come to a point in our life where we cannot protect ourselves, we don’t have the power or strength to do so, and we need help, we need somewhere to turn for real shelter and protection.
Today is an auspicious day in the yoga / Vedic calendar, known as Govardhan Puja. One of the most important meanings of today is understanding that the Supreme Person, the Original Cause, who is known as Krishna, is the person who can give us all protection. He is saying, just take shelter in Him.
Krishna is fully capable of lifting the burdens, fears, feelings of purposelessness and anxiety. He can lift all the burdens that we experience and that we feel on your shoulders, on our heart. Krishna is always ready to lift this and give us protection.
And how to we take shelter in the Supreme? Through His transcendental names (the mantras we chant) and through heartfelt prayer. Meditate, hear and sing the sacred sounds and find real protection and security.
