Perimenopause is a never ending rollercoaster for me🎢 I can survive it that much better if I schedule in at least 150 min moderate intensity activity (or 75 min vigorous) and at least 2 strength classes per week working all the major muscle groups.

Most importantly it helps me to sleep better 😴 so I have less brain fog, less overwhelm and anxiety & to temper that at times raging appetite. I think my teenagers may find me a more reasonable Mum when I work out.

I am also working on my muscles and strength to supercharge my metabolism, minimise fat gain (especially visceral fat gain) and optimise my heart and bone health.

A little bit about what I do….

Louise Mudge is a specialist dietitian at Adelaide Gastrointestinal Specialists. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, completing a Masters in Nutrition & Dietetics at Flinders University South Australia in 1998.

Louise has more than 25 years clinical experience both in private practice and her former role as Senior Dietitian/ Team Leader, Digestive Diseases, Royal Adelaide Hospital. This involved coordinating nutrition and dietetic services to the Gastroenterology, Professorial Oesophago-Gastric Surgery, Pancreatic & Hepatobiliary Surgery & Colorectal Surgery teams.

She is results driven and committed to evidence based practice. She participates in research to inform her patient care. During 2010-2015 she was seconded to the University of Adelaide Discipline of Surgery as the Clinical Trial Coordinator for a national multicentre trial evaluating specialised nutrition “immunonutrion” use in patients undergoing surgery for oesophageal cancer. She presented the results at the 2016 ESPEN Congress in Copenhagen and published in the British Journal of Surgery.

She specialises in the dietary management of patients with reflux, achalasia and motility disorders, gastric and oesophageal cancer.

She has extensive experience in the implementation of preoperative low calorie “liver shrinking” diets and was involved in recent research evaluating their use, along with body composition analysis (InBody 570) in patients before surgery for reflux. This enables her to ensure she achieves quality weight loss (fat mass) whilst minimising muscle mass loss. She was invited to share her expertise at the 2024 AANZGOSA/ SUGGS conference in Sydney.

Louise also has extensive experience managing patients with sarcopenia and malnutrition, IBS, functional dyspepsia and implementation of a Low FODMAP diet, lactose intolerance, Crohn’s & Ulcerative Colitis, Coeliac Disease, pancreatic cancer,pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, MAFLD & liver disease.

It’s sizzling in Adelaide today. Whipped myself up a berry & mango high protein smoothie bowl 🥭 💕 So yum, so quick & most importantly, so easy.

Simply add:

- 2 Tbspn frozen raspberries
- 1 handful frozen mango
- 4 ice cubes
- splash skim milk (~50 ml)
- 2 heaped Tbspn yoghurt. My current faves are Farmers Union Greek Style High Protein Yoghurt & Chobani Fit Greek Style Yoghurt Natural. Both minimally processed with very few ingredients ✔️✔️

PLUS to meet my increased perimenopausal protein needs 💪 and to tame my afternoon appetite I add 1 scoop FeelGood Tasteless Protein Collagen.

Blitz in NutriBullet or equivalent & voila you have a bowl of nutritious goodness which will give you 20g dose protein in under 175kcal 🫶
