πŸ’₯ Morton's Neuroma πŸ’₯

A Morton’s neuroma usually presents as a burning πŸ”₯ or sharp pain, in the ball of the foot. 🦢 It develops when the nerves that run between the metatarsal bones, at the base of the toes, becomes irritated and inflamed. Symptoms usually worsen with increased activity πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ or prolonged periods of standing.

Morton's neuroma is caused by footwear that squeezes the forefoot πŸ‘  or has minimal cushioning, biomechanical problems, flat arches and certain activities or injuries.

Podiatrists πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ can provide a diagnosis, sometimes with the assistance of an ultrasound to determine the size and position of the neuroma. Treatment methods include modifications to footwear, orthotics, anti-inflammatory agents, changing shoe styles and in very severe cases, an ultrasound guided cortisone injection πŸ’‰ may be necessary.

If you are suffering from Morton's neuroma, our Podiatrists can help! πŸ™Œ Book an appointment on ☎️ (08) 6269 2038

🌏 Today is International Women's Day πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦°

Women πŸ§• are more likely to have foot 🦢 problems than men. This is mostly because of footwear choices where women are more likely to wear narrow fitting shoes πŸ₯Ώ and high heels πŸ‘  that have adverse affects on their feet.

The most common foot problems encountered by women are:
πŸ‘‰ Morton's Nueroma - thickening of nerve tissue in the ball of the foot cause by squeezing feet into tapered or tight shoe boxes
πŸ‘‰ Bunions - pushes the big toe towards the second toe of the foot, causing a change in bone structure and a prominent bump on the side of the foot. This can be made worse by narrow toe boxes where the big toe is often forced on top of the second toe.
πŸ‘‰ Plantar Fasciitis - pain in the heel that can be caused by wearing unsupportive shoes such as ballet flats

If you are a woman struggling with foot pain, or know of a woman who is, encourage them to get their feet checked by a Podiatrist πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ in honour of International Women's Day! πŸ™Œ Appointments can be booked by calling ☎️ (08) 6269 2038

Be footwear πŸ‘Ÿ smart and choose the right shoe when shopping by following these tips:

πŸ‘‰ Try shoes on at the end of the day, when your feet are at their largest
πŸ‘‰ If you have orthotics, bring them with you and try the shoes on with your orthotics inside them
πŸ‘‰ Measure both feet and choose shoes that will fit the larger foot
πŸ‘‰ Avoid high heel, narrow or pointed-toed shoes. If you do have to wear heels, don't get anything over 5cm high.
πŸ‘‰ Ensure the toe box is wide and deep
πŸ‘‰ Choose a shoe with a soft but rigid back
πŸ‘‰ Choose a shoe with laces, straps or buckles over a slip on

Already bought a pair of shoes, but aren't sure if they're the right fit for you? πŸ€” Our Podiatrists can provide footwear checks! 🀩 Book in on ☎ (08) 6269 2038

πŸ’₯ Plantar Fasciitis πŸ’₯

Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot 🦢 and connects the heel bone to the toes. This causes pain 😣 and stiffness in the arch or bottom of the foot that can often worsen after long periods of rest, 😴 such as first thing in the morning. β˜€οΈ

Our Podiatrists πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ can diagnose and treat plantar fasciitis by prescribing orthotics, providing stretches and dry needling to help ease the pain.

🦡 Shin Pain 🦡

Shin pain is often called 'shin splints' and refers to pain along the shin bone due to the muscle tearing away from its insertion on the shin bone. 😣 This is often caused by wearing incorrect or worn-out footwear, muscle weakness, flat feet or running on hard surfaces.

Shin splints may present as pain, aching or swelling along the shin bone and worsen with increased activity, so must be looked at by a Podiatrist immediately. ❗️ Our Podiatrists can provide you with orthotics, muscle stretching and strengthening exercises and trigger point therapy to help treat your shin splints.

If you're suffering 😭 from shin pain, book an appointment by calling ☎️ (08) 6269 2038
