🕯️Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day🕯️

Today, we pause to honour and remember the little lives that were deeply loved but gone too soon.

At Coast Women's Imaging we are privileged to share in some of the most joyful moments of our patients’ journeys, but we also know that not every story has the ending that was hoped for. Our hearts go out to the families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a baby during pregnancy, birth or infancy.

Coast Women's Imaging pride ourselves on providing a respectful and caring environment during these times.

🌟 SERVICES SPOTLIGHT - DATING ULTRASOUND 🌟

A dating ultrasound is done during early pregnancy, ideally at around 7-9 weeks gestation.

Purposes of a Dating Scan:
• Confirm the pregnancy is viable (check for a heartbeat).
• Determine the gestational age of the baby.
• Estimate the due date more accurately than the date of your last period.
• Determine if it’s a single or multiple pregnancy (eg. twins).
• Look at the baby’s development.
• Scanning at this early stage of pregnancy also enables timely diagnosis of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

Preparation for your scan:
• Bring your referral with you to your appointment.
• You will need a full bladder for this ultrasound.

One of the first questions an expecting parent has is, "When is my due date?" While a due date gives us a target, it's essential to understand that it's an estimate, not a deadline.

Due dates are most commonly calculated using a method called Naegele's Rule, which adds 40 weeks to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). For pregnancies conceived through IVF, the due date is calculated based on the embryo transfer date. Ultrasound scans, especially in the first trimester, also provide a very accurate way to estimate your due date by measuring the baby's size.

It's important to remember that only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. A healthy, full-term pregnancy can range from 37 to 42 weeks. This five-week window is perfectly normal and gives your baby the time they need to develop.

Embrace the journey and the flexibility that comes with it. If you have questions about your due date or anything else related to your pregnancy, I am here to help.
