Psi Balance Psychology

Psi Balance Psychology Psychology Clinic located in North Lakes, Brisbane. Psi (or Ψ) is the 23rd letter of the Greek alphabet. Let us help you get your life back in balance.

Psi Balance is a group of psychologists who believe that balancing our lives is important for a person’s wellbeing. There are many explanations as to why the letter Psi is taken to be the symbol representing psychology. However, the etymology that we prefer is the symbol Ψ which represents the word Psyche, meaning “soul” or “spirit” in Greek. This Greek word came to represent the term “the science

of the soul” and eventual to its current meaning, “the science of the mind”. It is the science of the mind that is depicted in our logo, and, as our name suggests, we are dedicated to assisting you in reaching and maintaining your desired balance. We have grown from a sole practitioner to a team of six clinicians from different sub-disciplines of psychology: clinical, health and counselling psychology, with three very competent administration staff, all of whom have a special interest in working in the mental health industry. Our team is trained in empirically supported therapies, with a client-centred approach and unconditional regard for every individual. Each psychologist aims to work collaboratively with clients to develop their treatment plans; supporting their journey to a more harmonious and rewarding lifestyle. Our practitioners are encouraged to pursue their own special interests whilst maintaining a level of skills in therapies such as CBT, ACT, DBT and EMDR.

Here at our Practice, we believe it is your right to live a joyful and meaningful life.

Moral Injury – What helps
“You don’t have to carry it alone.”
With the right support, people can begin to:
• Make sense of what happened
• Process difficult emotions like guilt and shame
• Rebuild trust
• Reconnect with their values
Recovery isn’t about forgetting—it’s about integrating the experience in a way that allows you to move forward.

Moral Injury – Recognising the signs
“It doesn’t always look like distress.”
Moral injury can be quiet, but persistent.
It may show up as:
• Ongoing guilt or shame
• Difficulty forgiving yourself or others
• Loss of trust
• Feeling disconnected from what matters
People often continue functioning—but feel fundamentally changed inside.

Moral Injury – Who experiences moral injury
“Moral injury isn’t limited to the battlefield.”
It can affect:
• Veterans
• Healthcare workers
• First responders
• People placed in impossible situations
At its core, moral injury is about values—and what happens when those values are deeply challenged.

Moral Injury – Not all trauma is fear
“Not all trauma is about fear. Sometimes it’s about conscience.”
When people think about trauma, they often think of fear—fight, flight, or freeze.
But moral injury is different.
It arises when actions—or inactions—conflict with a person’s deeply held values.
It’s less about danger, and more about meaning.
Understanding this difference is important, because it shapes how recovery happens.

Staying Steady in an Unsteady World

With ongoing global conflicts—such as the war in Ukraine and escalating tensions involving Iran—many people are noticing a background sense of unease.

Even when events are far away, constant exposure to uncertainty can take a quiet toll.

Psychologically, this kind of environment can lead to:
• Heightened anxiety or restlessness
• Difficulty switching off from the news
• A sense of helplessness or loss of control
• Mental fatigue from “always being on alert”

So how do we stay informed without becoming overwhelmed?

A few simple, evidence-informed strategies can help:

• Limit news exposure — stay informed, but avoid constant checking
• Return to what you can control — focus on your day-to-day actions
• Regulate your body — breathing, movement, and routine matter more than we think
• Stay connected — real conversations help ground perspective
• Take small, meaningful action — even modest steps can restore a sense of agency

Importantly, feeling unsettled in times like these is not a sign of weakness—it is a very human response to uncertainty.

The goal is not to disengage, but to remain steady, informed, and psychologically balanced.

Moral Injury- Awareness (FOUNDATION)
“Sometimes the heaviest things people carry aren’t visible.”
Most people have heard of post-traumatic stress. Fewer have heard of moral injury.
Moral injury isn’t about fear in the traditional sense. It’s what can happen when someone experiences, witnesses, or feels responsible for actions that go against their deeply held values.
Rather than fear-based reactions, it often shows up as:
• Guilt or shame that won’t shift
• Loss of trust in others or institutions
• Anger, betrayal, or disillusionment
• A sense that the world no longer makes sense
People can appear “fine” on the outside, while carrying a significant internal burden.
Moral injury is not a sign of weakness—it often reflects a strong sense of values and conscience.
