ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders of childhood. In Australia, 1 in 20 children have ADHD.

The most common sign of ADHD is hyperactivity. While many children are naturally very active, children with ADHD are always moving. They may try to do many things simultaneously, moving from one activity to the next. ADHD can lead to poor concentration and control of impulses in children. It can affect their learning and social interactions, which can greatly impact family functioning.

As a parent, caring for a child with ADHD can be frustrating and overwhelming, but there are steps you can take to regain control of the situation while helping your child make the most of their abilities.

Here are five ways you can support a child with ADHD:
1. Role-play appropriate social behaviour.
2. Establish consistent routines.
3. Try to keep any instructions clear and brief.
4. Help them practise healthy eating habits.
5. Reward achievements and positive behaviour.

The idea of World Semicolon Day is to raise awareness about su***de prevention. Take the opportunity to reach out to a friend/loved one who may be struggling with their mental health. A simple gesture goes a long way.
