I am deeply honoured, humbled, and genuinely excited to step into the role of President of the Australia & New Zealand Hernia Society.

To follow in the footsteps of leaders who have shaped the standard of hernia care across our region is both a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. My sincere thanks to outgoing President Rod Jacobs for his guidance and tremendous contribution to our field — and to the ANZHernia Board, committees, and community for the trust placed in me.

Over the coming years, I look forward to continuing our mission to advance hernia science, improve patient outcomes, and expand education and collaboration across Australia and New Zealand. Key priorities include:
✅ Establishing and growing a national hernia registry
✅ Strengthening our educational programs and fellowship pathways
✅ Increasing our engagement and presence across New Zealand
✅ Supporting surgeons at all stages of training and practice
✅ Working closely with industry partners to drive innovation and access

Most importantly, I hope to continue fostering the collegial, generous, and forward-thinking spirit that makes this society so special.

Thank you to all who contribute to this community — faculty, members, trainees, nurses, industry partners, and friends. I’m excited for what lies ahead and grateful to serve.

Onwards! 🇦🇺🇳🇿

And just like that, my time on the Africa Mercy comes to an end.

It’s been an incredible honour to work alongside such hard-working, selfless people—willing to give up so much to serve those with so little. So many Aussies and Kiwis here, all united by one goal: to help people live healthier, happier lives.

No matter where we come from, rich or poor, we all want the same things—safety, food, shelter for our families, and joy. Yet here I’ve seen diseases that should never exist in 2025… bowed legs from rickets, children so tiny because worms steal every calorie they eat.

This trip has been life changing. I hope it’s the first of many. There’s a place here for everyone—please, consider how you could help too. A chance to make a real difference and be part of something wonderful.

So grateful to be able to serve on the Africa Mercy in Madagascar for two weeks. Fully staffed by volunteers from around the world who give from 2 weeks to 20 years of their lives to help the world’s poorest and underserved people. Delivering world to the forgotten and most deserving.

I recently had the honour of presenting a major talk to my fellow General Surgeons from around the Country on the diagnosis and management of chronic pain after hernia repair. I love helping people get their lives back to normal and end the suffering of chronic pain.

A great few days in Delhi at AWR Deep Impact with Experts from all over the world and 1500 delegates spreading the knowledge and friendship of the international hernia community. Again greatly honoured to be asked to be part of this world class conference faculty. Great also to catch up with other leaders from around Australia from ANZ Hernia to plan great things for the future in Australia and NZ.
