Have you ever wondered how our brains really work – what makes us anxious, and how we can calm down in stressful moments? 🌿

In our Kindergarten room, the children have begun exploring what makes people(children and grown-ups) feel the way they feel and why we behave in certain ways. I’d love to use this opportunity to invite all of us to learn alongside the children.

✨ Join us for Storytime with Ms Chloe as we read a series of books written by Orlanda Bettison together that shine a light on emotions, the brain, and strategies for well-being.
📖 In the first book, My Brain is My Home, we will:
Meet the amygdala – your “guard dog” who barks and tries to keep you safe.

Discover the prefrontal cortex – your Owl “wise brain” that helps you stay calm and think clearly.

Learn about the hippocampus – Hippo is a “memory keeper” who loves to learn and remember things.
📖 In the second book, My Brain: First Aid, we’ll explore different strategies to cool down and relax when big feelings arise.

📖 The other books in the series dive into specific techniques like breathing and mindfulness, helping us (and the children) take control of emotions, feel strong, and be better prepared to face challenges and stress.

Let’s enjoy these stories together – building our knowledge, supporting children, and growing as educators.

That’s right! While you’re sipping your (cold) coffee and wondering why all the spoons are in the laundry basket, your toddler is hard at work... exploring the world through something magical called schematic play.

What is Schematic Play?
Schematic play is a vital part of early childhood development.

When young children repeatedly transport, rotate, enclose, or throw objects, they’re not simply playing—they’re exploring key concepts like movement, space, and cause and effect.

These patterns of behaviour, known as schemas, support cognitive growth, motor skills, and problem-solving abilities.

Recognising and supporting schematic play helps us create richer, more meaningful learning environments for every child.

At Sesame Lane, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are deeply committed to creating nurturing, secure environments where children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. This commitment extends beyond policies—it is embedded in our daily practices and the culture of care we foster across all our rooms.

To further strengthen this commitment to Child Safety, we have recently received new resources and tools designed to empower our educators in their critical role of keeping children safe. Resources such as roleplay food, books, sensory play materials, and mindfulness tools will support children in learning about the world around them. These resources encourage the use of respectful language, help children understand their rights, support emotional regulation and spiritual development, and provide opportunities to explore emotions and feelings through sensory experiences.

By equipping our educators with the knowledge and confidence to act swiftly and appropriately, we ensure that every child in our care is protected and supported in their developmental journey. We believe that a safe learning environment is the foundation for lifelong learning.

About Us

Sesame Lane North Lakes Astley Parade is a unique 2 story Service conveniently situated along side of Supa IGA and United Medical Centres North Lakes. We are in a well situated position within the community of North Lakes and in easy distance of the new North Lakes station.

From the time our Service opened in 2013 we have become a great part of our local community and are always seeking involvement that will strengthen our presence and community relationships. We encourage all children and families to become a part of our Service and local community each and every day, by holding events and special gatherings designed to support our children’s sense of belonging and our family’s community ties.

Our Service provides learning environments that encourage and inspire learning early as the first 5 years of a child’s life are the most important to their growth and development. Throughout each day the children have opportunities to experience a play based curriculum which parents, families and visitors are welcome to join in on and participate. Our doors are always open.

Our Children’s Cook regularly provides both group and one-on-one cooking experiences with our children which encourages involvement in their own well-being by preparing and trying new foods and making healthy food choices; a great habit children will carry with them as they grow.
