Flu vaccination clinics start this week at Royal Park Medical.

Everyone six months and older is recommended to get an influenza (flu) vaccine each year. The flu vaccine not only protects you, but it also can help protect those around you.

Influenza vaccines are given each year to protect against the most common strains of the virus. The strains can change from year to year so the vaccines are updated from one season to the next.

It’s important to get vaccinated every year.

All National Immunisation Program funded vaccines available for use are trivalent (3 strains—two influenza A and one influenza B).

The flu vaccine is strongly recommended and free under the National Immunisation Program for people most at risk of complications from influenza, including:
• People 65 years and over
• Pregnant women (at any stage during pregnancy)
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
• Children 6 months to less than 5 years
• People 6 months and over with certain medical conditions including;

-cardiac disease
-chronic respiratory conditions
-chronic neurological conditions
-immunocompromising conditions
-diabetes and other metabolic disorders
-kidney disease
-haematological disorders
-children aged six months to 10 years on long term aspirin therapy.

Celebrating Women in Medicine & Healthcare

To celebrate International Women's Day 2026, we are recognising the critical role women play in medicine & healthcare. Royal Park Medical wanted to thank and acknowledge the incredible women who play such vital & important roles in our organisation. Thank you!

RPM values diversity and inclusion. We are proud to employ women in our workplace and advocate for gender equality in all facets of life, not just the workplace. As an organisation, we are proud advocates for women's health, providing expert care ranging from contraception, family planning, maternity shared care, advocacy and support for those experiencing domestic violence, menopause and all that fits between.

To all the women out there, we celebrate all that you do and are.

Many of us have had a summer filled with beach and sunshine - making now a perfect time to think about a full & comprehensive skin check. The doctors at Royal Park Medical offer thorough skin checks for all. We will discuss and review your skin and any spots you are concerned about, provide advice regarding monitoring as well as treatment options.

Most suspicious lesions can be removed onsite in our purpose built facilities and are performed by our GPs who have advanced training in dermatology.

Bookings can be made by contacting our friendly front desk on 03 8301 5500 or online at www.royalparkmedical.com.au

Congratulations to Dr Ron Leizerovitz who has become credentialled with the Royal Women's Hospital to provide Shared Pregnancy Care at Royal Park Medical.

Shared Pregnancy Care gives pregnant patients the choice to have antenatal care (pregnancy care) throughout their pregnancy with their GP. Many patients opt for shared care to have continuity of care as well as greater flexibility to book appointments around their other commitments such as work or study. Babies are delivered at the hospital.

Ron works 4 days per week and is currently accepting new patients.

This week we welcome back Dr Ronnen Leizerovitz who many of you may recall was a trainee GP with us in 2023-4. Ron has now completed his GP specialisation and will be working at Royal Park Medical in the longer term.

Ron enjoys all aspects of general practice and aims to provide care that is holistic, friendly and non-judgemental. Particular areas of interest include women’s health, sexual health, mental health, and chronic disease management.

Ron holds a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and is able to offer early pregnancy care, implanon insertion/removal, MTOP (medical termination of pregnancy) and iron infusions. He is also able to prescribe HIV PrEP and PEP to eligible patients.

He will be working on Tuesdays, Fridays and some Saturdays. So great to have you back Ron!

In response to recent unfounded claims linking paracetamol use in pregnancy to autism and ADHD, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) has issued a clear statement: paracetamol is safe to use during pregnancy when clinically indicated.

When used appropriately, paracetamol remains a safe and effective option for treating pain and fever during pregnancy.

As always, please consult your health professional with any concerns regarding medication use in pregnancy.

Dr Alistair Don returns to Royal Park Medical this week after a 3 week stint in Arnhem land where he works as a locum GP supporting the local Indigenous community with their health needs. Alistair travels seasonally to this community. His ongoing commitment to the health needs of our Indigenous population can not be understated (just quietly he's one of the longest serving visiting GPs they have!)

Just between us; we suspect much of his love also comes from the extracurricular activities he gets up to when not at work - check out that grin (and fish!). Welcome back Alistair and great work! We're looking to hearing all about it.

Meet Dr Alastair Stark an Oxford trained GP who moved to Australia in 2005.
You wouldn't know it by looking at him but he is a HUGE footy fan (AFL,... not soccer!). We'll leave the controversial team choice a mystery...

Alastair is one of the founding partners at Royal Park Medical with expertise and interest in chronic disease management, osteoporosis, palliative care and aged care.

He has been a supervisor of GP registrars over a decade and was awarded Australian GP supervisor of the year by GPET in 2013. He has also served on the Board of Governance of GP Divisions and Medicare Locals.

Alastair has lived in North Melbourne with his family since moving to Australia, and is very excited to have play a role in caring for the community in which he lives. He enjoys spending time with his family, cycling and traveling.

Alastair has increased his availability at Royal Park Medical in 2025 and is available on all days except Tuesdays.

Meet Dr Kate Robins-Browne who has recently completed qualifications in clinical hypnosis and is pleased to offer hypnotherapy to assist with the treatment of a range of concerns including stress, anxiety, insomnia and smoking cessation.

During hypnosis a person experiences an altered state of consciousness, known as trance, in which their conscious mind is less active and their subconscious is more active and receptive. The therapist provides verbal suggestions specific to the person and their goals. All clinical hypnosis requires the consent of the person and suggestions always take into account the person’s individual preferences and goals.

A hypnotherapy consultation usually takes 30 minutes and a person is awake and alert when they leave. The number of sessions a person requires depends on the problem being treated and the individual’s receptiveness.

If you are interested in engaging in clinical hypnotherapy, please book a long appointment with Dr Kate to discuss what you are seeking help with and whether hypnotherapy would be suitable for you.
