Eat complex carbs every single day.

Choosing complex carbohydrates including sweet potatoes, rolled oats, whole wheat bread, beans and pulses not only gives you good amounts of energy but also helps to increase serotonin, your feeling happy neurotransmitter.

Low carb diets are popular particularly for weight loss but can leave you feeling low in energy and mood. If weight loss is your goal by including some complex carbs into your day, you’ll keep energy and mood up and you’re more likely to stay on track to reach your goals. Plus complex carbs are high in fibre and other nutrients plus digest more slowly so will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Meal prep for the week 📝🍴

Most of us live busy lives and are time poor, so the meals we want to eat become too hard or too difficult to prepare, in the time that we have. Meal prepping certainly isn’t a new concept however, it's something we find a chore when really it doesn’t take that much time and can certainly save time in the long run.

Making a regular time each week to sit down and give it some thought is the way to go. Using up what's in the pantry is a great way to be budget & waste conscious. Then sticking to the shopping list makes that trip to the shops or sitting down at the computer to order, as painless as possible.

Allocating a meal to each family member helps to share the cooking load. Even if it's just having the kids chop the veggies it gets them into the kitchen and learning some cooking skills too.

I love a ‘fend for yourself night’ as it’s one less night to plan plus it uses up any leftovers, reducing the amount of food that gets thrown out. I tend to pick our busiest night where kids are out at activities or work and we don’t have time to sit down for a family meal anyway!

Find joyful movement. Whether it be face paced and gets you hot & sweaty or a gentle stretch that just makes you feel so good, as long as you enjoy it you’ll find time for it. Walking and pilates are by far my favourites, not only do they make me feel well and strong but they impact my headspace in such a positive way. I couldn’t live without them in my week!

Schedule in movement as much as you can throughout the week - put in the diary, stick a reminder note on the fridge, tee it up with a friend - whatever it takes to not cancel these plans and keep yourself accountable.
