🌱 The transition to adulthood can be overwhelming for Autistic young people and their families, but with the right support, it doesn’t have to be.

The MAPS Parent Program is a neurodiversity-affirming, two-part online series designed to help parents plan early, understand their child’s strengths, and navigate the path to post-school life with confidence.

Led by Dr Theresa Kidd, MAPS offers practical tools, creative strategies (including for PDA profiles), and support for building a meaningful adult future.

✨ What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness means paying full attention to what’s happening right now, without judging it as good or bad. Its an evidence-based strategy to help you feel more in control of your body, thoughts, and emotions. One way of doing this is by drawing your attention to the everyday surroundings, or to particular items, like slime and focusing in on that experience takes us out of our minds and into the present moment.

✨ You can do Mindful Slime Moments:
Before a hard task
After a meltdown or shutdown
During therapy
When you’re just feeling “off” and want to feel better

✨ Use this as a transitional or regulation tool:
Before or after difficult conversations
When emotional overwhelm is building
As a bridge from play to talk (or back again)

Thanks to Teneille for this mindfulness slime activity!

✨ Let’s get to know Morgan Bishop! ✨
Morgan has been studying Japanese for seven years and loves using it in everyday conversations whenever she gets the chance. One fascinating part of learning new languages is discovering words that don’t have a direct English equivalent, some single words in Japanese can translate into entire phrases in English!

Some examples include:
💬 Tsundoku (Japanese):
The act of acquiring books and letting them pile up, without reading them.
💬 Lagom (Swedish):
Not too much, not too little, just the right amount.
💬 Meraki (Greek):
Doing something with soul, creativity, or passion. Putting a part of yourself into what you’re doing.
💬 Hygge (Danish):
A cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort and conviviality.

Can you think of any other examples?

📣 It’s National Pyjama Day this Friday at The Kidd Clinic! 💤✨

This week, we’re sharing what makes us feel Safe, Calm & Cared For, because every child deserves to feel that way too.

For kids in foster care, stability can be hard to find. Constant changes in homes and schools can make it tough to learn and grow. That’s why we’re proudly raising funds for The Pyjama Foundation.

We’re rocking our cosiest PJs this Friday, and we’d love your support. Donate today and help a child in care feel seen, supported, and full of hope. ✨

Some thoughts from Elle after wrapping up the school holidays... "Connection doesn’t mean getting it right every time. It’s noticing the small moments when your child wants to be seen…and offering just enough presence to let them know you’re there."

Transition to High School is back!
➡️ Is your child transitioning to high school?
➡️ Are you unsure how to best support them?

With the right preparation, collaboration, and a
neuro-affirming approach, this transition can be navigated in a way that honours the unique needs of Autistic (including PDA) students, and parents report feeling more confident and better equipped for the journey ahead.

"This webinar was fantastic. Content rich and so practical. As an OT and mother of an autistic child, I learnt so much. I'd recommend this for anyone supporting neurodivergent children in their transition to high school, including teachers, therapists and parents." - Parent & OT

Griffith University are conducting a research project into adult’s perspectives on how helpful a range of potential adaptations to therapy would be. They are seeking adults who have seen a psychologist for therapy or support to take part. They are seeking the general population and autistic adults specifically to understand universal vs. unique adaptations to therapy.

The survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. Participation is completely voluntary, and your responses will be anonymous. This project has ethical approval from Griffith University Ethics Committee (approval number 2025/351). To access the information sheet, consent form, and survey, please click here:
