On Friday we held a lovely NAIDOC Week celebration at Richmond. A number of caregivers joined us where we shared an acknowledgement of country, a reflection on NAIDOC Week, a look at our “Wall of Fame” – significant Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island people and their stories, and finally delved deeper into the story of one of these, Adam Goodes.

After a NAIDOC Week reflection, we acknowledged the 2025 theme of NAIDOC Week, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, acknowledged the 50 years of NAIDOC – honouring and elevation Indigenous voices, culture and resilience, and the journey experienced over these 50 years.

This week is NAIDOC week and this year's theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

In 2003 the Dharug people met with the St John of God Brothers and other hospital caregivers to seek permission to build the Indigenous memorial garden onsite to commemorate the Battle of Richmond Hill, preserving the site for future generations.

The 2025 National NAIDOC Week theme "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.

NAIDOC Week this year marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth and at our hospitals we have many events planned for our caregivers to learn more.
