NextSense

NextSense NextSense is a not-for-profit that provides services for people with hearing or vision loss.

We work with both children, adults and their families to educate and create an individual program of care that meets their unique needs. We’re a registered NDIS provider, and we work with you to achieve your goals and potential. With the support of generous donations, NextSense provides vital support for children and adults, more cochlear implants than any other service in Australia, and is a world leader for research, technology and professional education in our field.

We were so pleased to be able to support this amazing volunteer mentor to access sound while visiting from the US. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip!

One of our incredible volunteer mentors from the USA lost her cochlear implant speech processor while out here for our Magnetic Island camp. She was facing having to navigate the remainder of her trip here hearing from only one side.

Thanks to the amazing support from NextSense, they stepped in and made the impossible possible by arranging an urgent audiology mapping appointment so she could use a spare Nucleus 7 device from a fellow mentor. With both sides up and running again she was back to connecting, mentoring, and hearing the full Australian experience again.

This is what community looks like, professionals, volunteers, and young people with lived experience coming together to lift each other up.

Thank you NextSense for supporting our global USH family in such a meaningful way. Your impact is heard and felt

Amazing day welcoming some of our ex-students back to NextSense! High school students in Years 7-12 who are deaf came together for a special holiday program filled with laughter, connection & creativity. It was so wonderful to see everyone face-to-face, strengthening friendships & enjoying fully accessible conversations with their peers as we began translating a brand new song for the Auslan Choir 💛👏

Some of our NextSense occupational therapists recently attended the Occupational Therapy Australia conference to share ideas & learn new ways to support children with hearing & vision loss.

Katie, Kelsey & Lucy gave a presentation about helping young children with vision loss learn power mobility skills to build their independence.

Our team also came back with lots of fresh ideas - from using virtual reality for safe travel practice to new equipment options, sensory play ideas, and ways to better support families through the NDIS process.

We’re excited to share what we learned with our team & put it into practice to help our clients even more!

NextSense Preschool recently marked Reconciliation Week with a truly special experience. We were fortunate to have a generous parent volunteer their time & cultural knowledge to guide a collaborative Aboriginal art project built around the message “We walk together for a better future” 🖤💛❤️

The children loved the sensory experience of feeling the paint between their toes as they walked across the canvas, adding their own unique marks to create a powerful & symbolic artwork. It was a meaningful way to learn, connect & reflect on the importance of walking together toward a more inclusive future.

What a day we had at the NSW Goalball Blind Low Vision Services Cup! It was a wonderful opportunity to come together with staff from Vision Australia & Guide Dogs Australia to try out this amazing sport that’s designed for people who are blind or have low vision. Players are blindfolded & rely on sound & tactile clues to navigate.

A massive thank you to the team at NSW Goalball who volunteered their time to show us the ropes. It was an extra bonus to be crowned the Cup champions🏆

The sun came out in Sydney as we welcomed the Governor of NSW, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, and Mr Dennis Wilson, to our centre for innovation☀️

It was an honour to introduce the Governor to some of our amazing students & teachers at NextSense School & Preschool, share about the wide range of people we support, & learn how we are redefining what’s possible for people with hearing & vision loss.
