The system is the body’s defence system, and a key component of its uniqueness is human leukocyte antigens (HLA).

HLA genetic testing helps identify the specific markers that make up an individual's immune profile. These markers play a crucial role in how the body recognises its own cells and responds to foreign substances.

HLA testing may be requested:

💠 To match organ or stem cell donors with recipients, facilitating safer and more informed transplant decisions.
💠 To understand autoimmune conditions, such as coeliac disease or ankylosing spondylitis, which can be associated with specific HLA types.
💠 To assess medication safety by identifying genetic factors that may indicate potential drug sensitivities.

At Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology ( ), our specialised laboratory performs HLA testing with precision and care. We help provide clinicians with accurate results to support personalised treatment plans.

Pathology testing plays an essential role in pregnancy care by providing information that supports clinical decision-making. Routine tests may help healthcare providers monitor your health and identify changes over time.

A Cervical screening test may be one of the tests your doctor recommends as part of routine care, and can help them assess cervical health and determine appropriate follow-up where needed*.

Cervical screening forms part of routine healthcare for those in the recommended age group.

For some individuals, a self-collected cervical screening test may be an option, completed in a private setting with support from a trained healthcare professional.

Understanding the process can help you feel informed before your appointment. Your doctor or healthcare provider can advise whether self-collection is suitable for you.

As you ease back into your regular routine after time away, feeling a little lacklustre might not just be post holiday blues.

Sometimes these shifts in how you’re feeling can point to underlying allergies. Your doctor may recommend allergy testing to help uncover the cause of any ongoing or new symptoms, so you can get back to feeling your best.

January marks Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. A time to highlight the importance of regular screening and early detection in the fight against cervical cancer.

We now know that 99% of cervical cancer cases are caused by persistent infections with certain types of HPV (human papillomavirus). Regular screening, which should be performed every 5 years, is crucial. It's a simple test where a swab of the cervix is taken. All individuals aged 25 or over are eligible for regular HPV testing as part of the National Cervical Screening Program.
