A big thank you to our Spiritual Care team for continuing to host such meaningful events.

2026 will mark the 75th anniversary of Carols at the San! 🎄

Originally known as “Carols by Candlelight,” the event began in 1951 and was pioneered by Arthur Lyndon (Lyn) Knight, who served as the program’s coordinator and conductor of the choirs and orchestras.

Over the years, it has grown into the community tradition we know and love today.

In the lead-up to December, we’ll be sharing moments from Carols through the years, starting with these photos from 2005. Do you remember the first year you attended? Let us know in the comments 👇

An inspiring evening of conversation ahead of International Women’s Day 💜

The event brought together female specialists, GPs, medical students and healthcare leaders to connect, share insights and reflect on their journeys in healthcare.

This year’s theme was “Balance the Scales,” and we heard from Dr Jingyi Cao, Dr Catherine MacManus and Dr Jennifer Posen, who are each at different stages of their careers. They shared their perspectives on the changes they’ve seen in healthcare, both in patient care and in the growing representation of women across medical specialties.

Thank you to Dr Nicole Phillips for chairing the event!

Check out our new G-Arm in action!

Last month, we became the first hospital in New South Wales and the second nationally to implement the new advanced G-Arm technology.

Compared to the previous system, the G-Arm has a smaller footprint, is easier to position and significantly improves the workflow in theatre. With the support of radiographers, the G-Arm provides high-quality, real-time 3D visualisation during surgery, enhancing surgical accuracy and supporting safer, more precise procedures.

We are honoured to be the first private hospital in Australia to receive an Angels Award from the World Stroke Organisation, achieving gold status for stroke care 🏆

Today our team took part in a live simulation of a stroke patient, demonstrating how quickly, safely and effectively we treat patients experiencing stroke — where every minute matters.

This achievement wouldn't be possible without the skill, dedication and collaboration from all of our stroke team, led by Dr Kong Chung and our brilliant stroke CNC Krista 💙

For Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, our Cancer Support Centre team is wearing teal ribbons to bring attention to one of Australia’s most lethal female cancers.

With no effective, population-wide screening test currently available for ovarian cancer, awareness and open conversations are more important than ever.

At the San, we are fortunate to have our dedicated Gynaecological Cancer Patient Navigator, Jude, who supports patients, families and clinicians, guiding women through every stage of their cancer journey.

“By simply wearing the teal ribbon throughout February, you can help start conversations and increase awareness of the disease, while helping to raise funds to support women affected by Ovarian Cancer,” says Jude.

We are proud to acknowledge two of our San Doctors who were recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours List, reflecting decades of service, leadership and commitment to patient care and community 🎉

🤰 Dr Gordon Robert Campbell OAM

Dr Campbell cared for generations of San patients over 30 years, becoming a trusted face for women and families during some of life’s most significant moments, and was a fantastic mentor for many of our doctors.

🦴 Dr Andrew Pilcher Wines AM

Dr Andrew Wines, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to orthopaedic surgery and to the community.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr Wines has held various leadership positions in a number of organisations, including the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the Medical Benevolent Association of NSW and the ACT. He is also passionate about community service, as a long-standing member of Lifeline and St Johns Ambulance.

Congratulations Dr Campbell and Dr Wines on these well-deserved honours.

We’re excited to announce the appointment of Jessica Ratcliff as the San’s new Specialist Bowel Care Nurse, a role proudly funded by Bowel Cancer Australia 💙

Jessica has been part of the San since 2007 and is passionate about supporting patients. “It’s important that they know we are around from the beginning, and that they have someone to guide them and point them in the right direction for resources, support, and care coordination,” said Jessica.

The Specialist Bowel Care Nurse service is available on Tuesdays and Fridays, offering personalised support, advice, advocacy and information for patients throughout their care journey.
