TULA Healing

TULA Healing Ayurveda is a holistic living philosophy reaching back some 5000 years in India. It understands that wrong digestion is at the root of all disease.

Food can be your medicine. Finding and living your purpose. I have always had a deep, inherent knowing that all we need in this life occurs in nature. I had this vague understanding that we are part of nature and there is a balance to be found within each of us, mind and body. As my understanding deepened, I came to realise that what we experience- see, and feel- and the way we interpret it, is a reflection of what is going on inside… and here is where the line between body and mind is diminished, blurred and melded. And then the understanding that if we want change in our lives, our body, our state of mind… if we want to be understood differently… we need to change. I have known for some time now that I am a healer. I can channel balancing energy to any person who wants to receive this energy. I have learnt several different modalities along the way- Reconnection, Reiki, Spiritual and Access bars, and now it has evolved. It was spirit who asked me to ‘look into’ Ayurveda, and when I did I found a wisdom thousands of years old, yet still so relevant today. Ayurveda developed along side Yoga with it’s understanding of mind and body, it’s daily routines that nourish and cleanse mind and body. It’s philosophy of making food your medicine. The balancing of the elements within your constitution to bring health and peace of mind

Now I have returned to the place of my birth for family reasons. I have discovered Ayurveda and soon I will be opening a practice to treat those who know their health could be better, who’s mind could be happier and generally want to feel better, they are looking for change. This page will deliver weekly fact about different aspects of Ayurveda for your interest. I welcome questions and by September 2022 when I am a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, I will be able to make an appointment with me for assessment, treatment and massage.

Caring for your Ears

Our ears are governed by the elements of air and ether. They can become unbalanced in dry and cold weather or when exposured to loud noise, and stress. You may experience dryness, ringing, discomfort and sometimes your balance is impaired or your mental calmness is disrupted.

By providing nourishment to your ears with warm herbal oil, you will regain calmness and feel more grounded and balanced.

The science of Ayurveda offers a treatment called Karana Purna. Its benefits may include the following:

• Reduces ear dryness, irritation, and ringing (tinnitus)
• Soothes discomfort caused by wind, cold, or noise exposure
• Supports balance, coordination, and nervous system stability
• Assists in recovery from blocked ears after swimming, diving, or flying
• Promotes calmness, better sleep, and mental clarity
• Supports bone and nerve tissue health in the ears
• Helps prevent issues caused by urban noise pollution and seasonal dryness

This treatment is also very helpful in relieving symptoms of stress and anxiety as it works on the central nervous system. It can relieve neck stiffness and an aching mandible joint.

Ayurveda has long understood the connection between hearing loss and accelerated cognitive decline.

Your Body’s Diagnostic Maps

During an Ayurvedic consultation, we use several of the body’s self-diagnostic tools. Places on your tongue reflect the condition of your organs on a daily basis. The colour of the coating in particular positions can indicate such things as malabsorption of nutrients, or lack of oxygen. Swelling and indentations may indicate inflammation or depletion of organs. There are many indicators.

We study the iris with an iridology camera to find possible scars that occur in specific sections according to the organ that is represented in that position. Different shapes of the scars indicate the type of energy that is in excess in that organ. With this information it is possible to know the changes the person can make to change that energy and bring back balance, therefore heading off the disease that may result if no change is made. For example, a Vata scar in the mind section may indicate scattered and negative thoughts, a fearful nature or impatience. This can develop into full anxiety or other mental imbalances. A Kapha scar in the stomach/pancreas section may indicate a prediabetes condition. A Pitta scar in the heart may indicate hypertension.

The pulse also holds many secrets other that just your heart rate too.

We treat people with diet changes, daily routines, emotional healing, herbal medications and body work (massages, oil treatments, steaming). If you are interested in finding out more, please contact me, Jane Leeming, at www.tulaayurveda.com.au or message on 0411864041.

Understanding Period Pain

Most people understand a woman’s menstrual period to be the release of the uterus lining (endometrium) so it can be replaced with a fresh environment for a baby to grow if fertilisation occurs.

Another very important way to understand this release, is that it is a detoxification process. Only women have this ability to release toxic build up every month. It is a cleansing process.

If the build-up of toxins/waste is excessive due to improper diet or poor digestion, or environmental pollutants, an extra heavy build-up of waste occurs. This greatly contributes to PMS causing pain, mood swings, and many other hormonal symptoms.
If a woman’s diet, sleep and exercise are balanced during the month, there will be far less symptoms.

Today women tend to expect to function at the same level as every other day and don’t honour the process that is taking place in their body.

It is healthy to take it easy during menstruation. Don’t exercise vigorously, just light exercise. Slow down mentally too, rest, but don’t sleep during the day as that can mess with your hormones and digestion. Handle cravings- some women crave salt or sugar during their period. So, resist too much salt and if sugar cravings persist, have a glass of warm (unhomogenised) milk and honey.

According to Ayurveda, sexual activity should be avoided during menstruation and the use of tampons should be minimised as they both hamper normal flow causing imbalance.

Skin Dryness in Winter

Many of us find our skin and hair becoming dry in Winter. This is largely due to the bodily intelligence of Vata (a Sanskrit word). Vata is governed by the elements of air and space and is responsible for all movement in our body. The season of Winter is also governed by Vata- dry and rough wind and cold temperatures which are drying.

Excess Vata can show up as thinner blood, dry and rough skin, dry mucus, chapped lips, reduced electrolytes in the body, earaches, insomnia, bloating, gas, confusion, restlessness, anxiety, and inflammation.

To counter these effects, we should find remedies which possess the opposite qualities like warmth, unctuousness, softness, or thickness. You can use Vata pacifying oils such as rosewood, sandalwood, jasmine, ylang-ylang, sesame, almond, lemon, or orange.

At Tula Healing I offer the Abhyanga massage using Vata oil which contains 23 herbs including Dashmoola, Ashwagandha and Bala in a cold pressed black sesame oil base. The effect is pacifying to the nervous system, nourishing to the skin and cleansing to the bodily tissues.

It is also very helpful to eat warm, nourishing and moist foods such as soups (home-made of course), warm milk at night with cinnamon, cardamom and a little honey or raw sugar. Herbs/spices help to warm and cleans the body.
