The Benefits of Pregnancy Massage
During the first trimester of pregnancy a woman’s body is going through many changes, both physically and mentally. An Ayurvedic pregnancy massage helps calm the nervous system and supports emotional stability. It also strengthens the body’s ability to take in oxygen (or Prana), it encourages healthy circulation of blood and plasma, and relieves physical tension while deeply nurturing mother and baby.
This massage is gentle compared to the more energetic massage given generally. The purpose being to support energetic flow rather than move out toxic build up in the mother, hopefully that has happened prior to conception. This massage is about promoting grounding and nourishment.
During the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, the mother is becoming more uncomfortable and circulation can be affected. Oedema (swelling) in the feet and ankles often occurs. Her thinking can become muddled and cloudy. The growing baby is drawing nutrition from the mother, so good nutrition is vital for the mother, and also nurturing both mother and baby through gentle, grounding Ayurvedic touch.
This massage reduces tightness, stiffness and swelling of feet and lower limbs, healthy circulation, assists in reducing the risk of high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia, calms the nervous system and reduces fatigue.
I advise a pregnancy massage at least once a month or as required to add to the healthy outcome for mother and baby.
