The Sanctuary Retirement Living in Caboolture South QLD is thriving and this month, residents and the Aveo team got together with Aveo CEO, Tony Randello to celebrate the successful revitalisation of the community which is now completely sold out. This celebration was about more than just bricks and mortar - it was about connection, teamwork, and progress.

The Sanctuary has been on a transformational journey and with a renewed focus on flexibility, service, and upgraded facilities in the past two years, it’s safe to say the transformation has been a success. More than 70 new residents have chosen to make The Sanctuary their home since 2023, and the energy across the community is wonderful to see! Tony and the Aveo team hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of the celebrations. The ceremony was made even more special by long-time resident Alan, who gave a beautiful speech and shared that moving to The Sanctuary 13 years ago was “the best decision [he] could have made.”

The success of The Sanctuary is a testament to the incredible teamwork across Aveo, from sales, marketing , care and operations to refurbishment, finance and leadership, and to the residents that create the wonderful community spirit at The Sanctuary. We’re so proud that the community is thriving, together.

🌟 Meet Margaret Greer – 89 years young and rewriting the rules of aging!

A former teacher, devoted mum, and lifelong creative, Margaret has always lived by her mother’s words that “girls should be educated and determined.” That determination has carried her through life’s many chapters. From returning to teaching after the “marriage bar” was lifted, to exploring her creative side with woodwork, fabric painting, and quilting.

Since moving to Newmarket Parklands in 2013, Margaret has embraced community life with energy and independence. She was drawn to the community as it would allow her to remain independent, and continue to indulge in a world that she had created for herself.

Margaret fills her days with quilting for church stalls, painting watercolour cards, tackling 1,000-piece jigsaws, joining in trivia, and borrowing books from the library. As she puts it: “Every Sunday I check my diary and if I have a gap, I think about what I can fill it with or do? Every night I check to see what I have organised for the next day!”

Even after giving up driving at 88, Margaret refused to slow down - she walks to the shops, catches public transport into the city, and even learned to use Uber and DiDi to get where she needs to go.

At 89, Margaret's philosophy is simple: “Longevity is a state of mind. Stay busy and help others.” 💐

We put the call out to community teams looking for Aveo’s Ageless Legends – residents for whom age is but a number and continue to live life to the fullest. Meet Janet McDonald, resident at Sackville Grange who just celebrated her 102nd birthday!

Janet’s early years were shaped by the legacy of WWI, with her father serving in Egypt and Gallipoli. Janet briefly worked in nursing before joining the Army at age 18, stationed in Melbourne. It was there she met her husband Hugh, a Navy man. They married in 1946 and raised three children. Janet is interviewed quite regularly by journalists about her life but just says, “It’s been a pretty ordinary life.”

Janet has called Sackville Grange home for 17 years, loves Dickens and Shakespeare, still drives, travels regularly, and says her secret to longevity is a daily brandy and dry, and not too much exercise!

We asked Janet what she loves about Sackville Grange, and she shared, “We’re just so lucky with Trish, Helen, and Ken, they are worth their weight in gold. Ken is marvellous and I’ve never seen him without a smile on his face. I do give him a poke with my walking stick occasionally, to keep him on his toes!”

Janet’s wit, warmth and wisdom make her a true ageless legend at Sackville Grange.

The heart of Edrington Park in Berwick just got a whole lot brighter! ✨

The newly refurbished Community Centre is already a hit with residents and is now home to a grand piano, a neighbourly café and bar, a cosy library corner, fireplace, outdoor games area and a spacious deck with breathtaking views. Last month, residents and team members came together for a fun photoshoot to celebrate the beautiful new spaces and the sense of connection they bring.
Community Manager Wade Farnsworth said that the new spaces have been very popular, “We have such a stunning view from the new deck, we recently held a sunrise BBQ with residents to celebrate!”

From morning coffees to evening chats by the fire, Edrington Park is all about comfort, connection, and community. 💛

Sometimes, the best decisions are the ones you didn’t expect to make.

Karl and Diane were living on the Gold Coast when their daughter suggested they move back to Sydney to be closer to family. “Diane needs some support, so moving made sense, but I couldn’t see it working financially,’’ Karl said. “I thought what we would get for our Gold Coast apartment wouldn’t allow us to buy close to Sydney, where everything sells in the millions.”

At first, Karl wasn’t sold on the idea of retirement living. “Our daughter suggested we look at retirement communities, but my response was ‘I’m not living with all those old people!' She took us to inspect a few communities, and Minkara Resort was the last we looked at. It took me 10 minutes to decide it was the one for us. I loved the outlook over bushland and the ocean views.’’

They moved into a two-bedroom apartment in December 2023 and chose to defer the management fee. “That decision allowed us to have a little leftover funds for the things we needed, so I bought a new car,’’ Karl said. “We are very happy here and we’ve made some good friends. The reality is that my fear about the residents being ‘too old’ was very wrong.’’

“Our daughter calls in regularly to check up on us, and late last year her father-in-law also moved into the community!’’

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Karl and Diane. We're so happy you made the move! 🏡

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘃𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗺𝘀 – 𝗕𝗼𝗰𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻!

It was Alex vs Geoff, residents vs residents, and plenty of laughs all round as Lindsay Gardens visited Sunset Palms for an afternoon of bocce and banter on the Sunshine Coast.

The competition was fierce, with Sunset Palms just scraping ahead in the resident matches. But the big finale came down to manager vs manager - and despite the hometown advantage, Geoff pulled off a surprise win against Alex! 🏆

A sizzling sausage BBQ kept the energy high, and the sunshine made it the perfect day for friendly rivalry and great company. 🌭☀️

Here’s to more days like this, where the real winners are the friendships made along the way!

The stereotype of older Australians struggling with technology couldn't be further from the truth!

As part of an article with The Daily Telegraph, Aveo’s 2025 Ageing Australia Study revealed that 94% of Australians aged 65–85 now own a smartphone - almost the same as Gen Z. But unlike younger generations, many are using technology to enhance their lives rather than dominate it.

Just ask Richard Conibear, a grandfather of five living at Bayview Gardens Retirement Living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Richard stays connected through Facebook groups and loves jumping on YouTube for practical tips. “If you want to know how to change the spark plug on a lawnmower, look at YouTube!” he says with a grin.

For fellow Bayview Gardens resident Fran Taber, her phone is “a very necessary tool” for keeping in touch with family and playing word games with friends overseas. But her daily 10,000 steps - walking down to the water each morning - keep her grounded and healthy.

Their stories reflect the study’s findings: more than half of Australians aged 65–85 exercise three to five times a week, and most embrace technology in a way that strengthens, rather than replaces, real-life connections.

Aveo's CEO, Tony Randello sums it up best: “Technology has been an enablement for them, but it hasn’t defined their lifestyle - and I don’t think it ever will.”

This generation of retirees is rewriting the story of ageing: active, digitally connected, and thriving in every sense!

A beautiful tribute to Ronda Alterator OAM, much-loved resident of Minkara Resort in Bayview and a true Warriewood netball legend.

This week, the Ronda Alterator Reserve was officially opened in her honour - a fitting recognition of her 40+ years of dedication to the Narrabeen Youth Club and Manly Warringah Netball Association.

Ronda’s passion, generosity and community spirit will continue to inspire for generations to come ❤️

✨ 𝗔 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 ✨

For Lindfield Gardens residents Ashley and Jane, life together has been a performance filled with passion, creativity and adventure.

Both born in London, Ashley and Jane began their ballet journeys on different paths - Ashley through the Royal Ballet School, and Jane, after recovering from childhood illness, with training in Sydney and later London. But it was in Johannesburg, while Jane was working on a book about both South African ballet companies, that their destinies aligned. Sent to interview Ashley, then a resident choreographer and assistant director, Jane recalls: “By halfway through the interview I was head over heels in love. I just knew we would spend the rest of our lives together.”

Ashley was equally struck, saying he was on his best behaviour that day but was immediatelydrawn to the “pretty” interviewer – despite her being from a rival company. Within two years, the pair were married.

From there, their shared journey took them across continents - leading ballet companies, raising their son, and eventually founding the Ecole Ballet and Dance Theatre in Sydney, where they nurtured thousands of aspiring dancers over two decades. Their school became a cornerstone of Sydney’s dance community, with students going on to perform and win scholarships around the world.

Now, after 44 years of marriage, Ashley and Jane remain just as devoted. Jane keeps active with daily barre exercises, while Ashley enjoys staying physically fit and active in the Lindfield Gardens community. But it is their bond that continues to inspire. Ashley says, “It’s definitely give and take and I think the fact that we both have a sense of empathy for other people has also contributed to the success of our marriage."

Jane smiles: “He was and still is a very good-looking man. He was a fantastic director and a wonderful choreographer. I’m so proud of all he has achieved. I think he’s just divine.”

From that first interview to a lifetime together, Ashley and Jane’s story is proof that love - like dance - only grows more beautiful with time. 💛
