Lifestyle habits that were drilled into us growing up --

My dive into TCM helped me understand why

Chinese medicine and culture is all about prevention --

Preventing fatigue
period pain
headaches
digestive issues
low immunity
chronic pain

These are small things you can do to support your body and its functions

How I got into acupuncture and Chinese medicine:

Mutiple herniated discs, sciatica, fatigue

What has majorly improved my chronic low back pain?

1. Movement - strengthening, mobility, stretching - find a professional to train you with the correct movements for you, this knowledge will save you for the rest of your life! ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

2. Diet - eat for your body, ask a practitioner, listen to your body's responses... and warm cooked foods! Eat breakfast and eat before coffee ๐Ÿณ

3. Stress management - direct links of stress and inflammation - change the little things in your daily routines to bring you less stress in your day and incorporate techniques to mitigate current stressors ๐Ÿ˜Œ

4. Heat - keep your lower back, abdomen, and feet warm - improves circulation and organ function! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

5. Deep breathing - improves posture and circulation to lower body ๐Ÿซ

6. Acupuncture and herbal medicine - breaking chronic pain cycles, balancing dysregulation, improving circulation locally ๐ŸŒฟ

The whole-body approach to healing my chronic pain has also improved my body function as a whole - my thyroid and iron levels improved, energy increased, digestion settled, and I feel more grounded overall.

Feb 17 - we've reached the start of the Lunar New year on this second new moon of the year. New year traditions leave behind negative energy and welcome good luck, prosperity, and health in the new year ๐Ÿงง๐Ÿงจ

The Yang-Fire Horse brings a strong energy - fuelling fire and stirring up dormant energies ๐ŸŒ‹

When fires blaze too strong, there can be overstimulation, inflammation, restlessness, burnout. Take care to integrate practises to avoid riding the momentum of the Fire Horse year ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Yet, it also stokes the energy to initiate - start new projects, take risks, speak out.
Utilise this type of Fire to support movement down a new path! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I wish you all a very prosperous, healthy, beautiful new year and relay my deep gratitude for your trust in me and your endeavours in self-care โ˜บ๏ธ

Three-quarters through summer & just past the Lunar New Year, we come to a night that allows the hyperactivity of summer to ease and quiet.

Led by Tiff through a collection of Yin Yoga poses to open your body, followed by acupuncture, you'll close your week and drift through summer's final months with clarity and calm.

Top TCM tips that will upgrade your life ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿฝ

Instead of funnelling funds into the newest trend or quick fix, let's focus on what the body already knows ๐Ÿค”

When we listen to our bodies and turn towards the basics, recovery becomes more sustainable and long-lasting. Symptoms soften, energy lifts, emotions, regulate, and hormones balance- feeling more like yourself.

TCM is not just pain-relief or a bandaid, it's facing your relationship with your body and asking it to come back to balance.

A few simple practices to incorporate daily:
1. Eat warm cooked foods (and not on-the-go!) ๐Ÿฒ
2. Be fast asleep by 11pm ๐Ÿ˜ด
3. Eat a warm breakfast (6-9am) ๐Ÿณ
4. Live seasonally - rest more in Winter, wake/sleep with the sun, eat seasonal fruits/veg โ˜€๏ธ
5. Gentle walk post-meals ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

And one of my favourites- go look at green (trees, grass) and the clouds - lay in a park ๐ŸŒณ

Over time, your daily state will level up - fewer symptoms, lifted calm energy, more grounded ๐Ÿ˜Œ

How do I know if I'm ovulating? If I have hormonal imbalances?

If you're unsure, I'll probably get you to start tracking your Basal Body Temperature (BBT)๐ŸŒก๏ธ

BBT is your body's lowest rating temperature on wake. By analysing consecutive monthly charts, we can find patterns which help us:
๐Ÿ”ธconfirm ovulation prรฉsence/timing
๐Ÿ”ธunderstand hormonal patterns
๐Ÿ”ธidentify irregular or anovulatory cycles
๐Ÿ”ธsupport fertility, conception, and cycle health
๐Ÿ”ธsupport Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment

BBT is a mirror of TCM diagnosis, in chart form!

In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) our goal is to improve the function of the Lung and digestive channels - to aid moisturising of and circulation to the skin, to increase nutrients and Blood.

These daily tips work to:

- moisten the skin from within
- circulate to clear and repair
- improve elasticity
- benefit the muscles under the skin

to promote long-term skin health and vitality!

Acupuncture and herbal medicine approach skin care through the same lens as these tips. We also recognise that every person has a distinct skin profile, so treatments are tailored to those specific needs.

An introduction to how I approach each of you and your symptoms --

I strive to understand ->
- how your symptoms are interconnected ๐Ÿ”—
- and from which system imbalance they arise from โš–๏ธ

What is causing or contributing to your symptoms and how can both we reduce and prevent.

Utilising traditional knowledge that has been developed for thousands of years in combination with modern medicine allows me to approach your condition from multiple angles.

Reading your pulse helps me to understand why your symptoms are presenting - everyone's condition is different! โœ‹๐Ÿฝ

You might also notice me run my fingers across certain channels of your body - feeling for inconsistencies, areas of tension, or emptiness.

By listening to your body, I can better fine tune your treatments to work on your specific patterns. Understanding your underlying imbalances also helps target certain aspects of your lifestyle that may need shifting. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

It's something I've noticed in many of my patients - those who experience either jaw (TMJ) tension or pelvic floor tension often also experience the other ๐Ÿ’ฅ

You might have a tight pelvic floor even if you don't know it - it's not only pelvic pain but also incomplete urination or bowel movements, constipation or urinary urgency! ๐Ÿช

I see there is often a connection with nervous system dysregulation and/or postural habits.

When our bodies get stuck in that constant fight-or-flight state, we need something to break the cycle ๐ŸŒ€

We'll target your specific imbalances - whether it be nervous system, muscle tightness or weakness, posture, poor circulation, or more.

What's in a pulse? ๐Ÿซด๐Ÿฝ

I'm not just counting your heart rate! Reading the pulse is one way the body can speak to us.

Through the rhythm, depth, and quality of the pulse, I can feel your energy, flow of Blood, and the state of your fluids ๐Ÿฉธ

I look for stagnation or blockages, areas where the flow may be stuck or depleted, and the vitality of each organ system โŒ

My fingers sense tension, phlegm, fatigue, stress, and more ๐Ÿคง

Every pulse is different and each of your pulses are forever changing... so are your treatments ๐Ÿ’†๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

A peek into what nutrients and types of foods will benefit us most at different times of our cycle.. and why!

Traditional Chinese medicine views the menstrual cycle as one that aligns with the seasons and their transitions.

Period = Winter โ„๏ธ
Follicular = Spring ๐ŸŒฑ
Ovulation = Summer ๐ŸŒž
Luteal = Autumn ๐Ÿ‚

Therefore, as we do for the seasons, we can incorporate different foods into each phase of the cycle to support our body's functions.

*Please note that cycle days and diet options differ greatly from person to person. This post shares general advice and an approximation of days. Talk with a practitioner for personalised suggestions if your cycle is irregular and/or you have food sensitivities.
