Magnesium is helpful for so many things - reducing headaches, muscle tension, better sleep, reduced cramping and now it seems that we need it for improved cognition!

In this study on average, higher baseline dietary Mg intake was associated with larger brain volumes in both men and women.

The results also showed that the neuroprotective effects of more dietary magnesium appears to benefit women more than men and more so in post-menopausal than pre-menopausal.

Magnesium is essential for everyone, but it’s helpful to see its impact on the brain in this case, as well as the benefits for post-menopausal women.

I'm eating some dark chocolate (85% Coles brand UTZ approved) as I post this - just to make sure I stay well!

Eating dark chocolate can help reduce anxiety and improve symptoms of clinical depression. People who ate dark chocolate in two 24-hour periods had 70% reduced odds of reporting depressive symptoms than those who did not eat chocolate. However, milk chocolate did not produce the same effect. Dark ch...

The role of shoes, insoles and orthotics in making you move better.

For two years I've been studying the effect of shoes, insoles and on a test for balance and motor control capacity. The test is called a Motor Control Screen, a derivative of the Lower Quarter Y-Balance Test, which is a derivative of the Star Excursion Balance Test. Here's the gist: only one person in two years scored better with shoes on, with orthotics in........so what does that mean?

Wearing shoes has not helped wearers to control their body movements when standing on one leg.
Wearing insoles, or custom made orthotics has also not helped wearers to control their body movements when standing on one leg.

I'm going to leave it there. Happy to continue the conversation if you wish.

Restless leg syndrome is very frustrating for people. When clients tell me of this problem I have often suggested taking magnesium or topically applying it, to see if it helps. On many occasion it has solved my clients RLS. But this article talks of issues I would never have thought of and may be very helpful to those who don't respond to the magnesium quick fix solution.
