📢 So excited to share the Highlights from our very officially first Advanced 🌟💥Youth DBT Skills Program for Teens + Parents 💥🌟we held at The Calming Suite Psychology in July - August.

Thank you 🙏 to all the young people and parents who came along every week and participated so actively, dynamically and intently.

Thank you also to Alana and Aleksandra 🙏💕two of our inspiring psychologists at the Calming Suite who brought so much energy each week to help me bring this program to life.

I am still blown away by the gorgeous feedback so many of you provided about it. To know how well you connected with it, and have benefited from it has truly inspired me to keep this program going in the future for as many young people, parents as we can help.

I am now also after requests excited to build it into a teaching development DBT Skills program for other psychologists and healthcare professionals who may be looking for a new way to connect and inspire their teen clients with greater barriers and complex mental health

Such a great day! ✨
I felt so honoured to be invited to present at the 16th National Allied Health Conference (Adelaide Convention Centre) on the topic of eating disorders among youth
Thank you 🙏

The best part was just how wonderful it was as an opportunity to get together as a Calming Suite Psychology team to do something a little different out of the office and collaborate with so many likeminded, Inspiring Allied Health Professionals today! 🫶❤️

Was so inspiring hearing all the innovative ideas and research happening right around Australia to help improve mental health!

Thank you Amy Molloy 🙏 for inviting me to take part in the exceptionally important and concerning new trend happing right now influencing so many younger teenagers right now in negative body image, dangerous diet trends and eating disorders through AI technology, which is seemingly coming across as bullying with concerning influential advice. This is SO worrying, and I am so grateful that you have decided to draw attention to this trend and also take time to explore it among teenage girls in Australia. It is so clear more is needed to help change the trajectory of this very quickly.

Such a Honour to be able to do this
🟠🟢GLOWING + GROWING🟢🟠 Thank you again Westminster College for having me, you were so welcoming, and engaging.

There have been so many times (I have lost count) over the past 10 years I have lied awake at night thinking about all the ways I need to do more for our children/teenagers suffering in silence and with mental health.

Being a clinical psychologist we can only see so many people in our day/per week. It is just not enough, with how much need is out there. And with such incredibly shortage of psychologists, alongside the financial strain of so many people (who maybe cannot afford to see a psychologist), I have tried to think of ways I can get myself out to connect with more children/teens.

Being able to go into schools and have the opportunity to reach so many more teens in a room in incredible. I know it is not often what many psychologists think they will be doing after graduating, but gosh it is inspiring and I love it. Just knowing there maybe some teens in the audience who are suffering with things like negative body image, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, stress, peer pressure, drug and alcohol issues, trauma, self-confidence, self-worth, and maybe just feel really stuck and lonely. Break down those walls of stigma and hopefully touch some people in a way that evokes hope and strength.

📢BRAND NEW MENTAL HEALTH SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR TEEN GIRLS

The Calming Suite Psychology Team are so excited to finally announce our bran new school mental health program for Teen Girls called:

🌟GLOWING + GROWING❤️; The Holistic Mind, Body & Soul Program for Teen Girls Ready to Step into a New Era of Themself and Life

This Is a Vibrant, Modern-Framed, Bursting Hour of Fun and Energy Dedicated to Helping Spread Awareness and Education About Important Mental Health and Nutrition in A Way That Teens Can Relate to, Feel Inspired by, Motivated From, and Connect with.

This program is very Interactive ‘hands on’, and engaging with the girls, offering practical skills and techniques from evidence-based therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), EMDR, CBT, Positive Psychology, and Schema Therapy to help with Relevant Topics To Australian Teen Girls in 2025

We Have only Just launched this program and already received such gorgeous, positive feedback from students and school staff, which we are truly so honoured and motivated from.

Thank you to Westminster College 🙏from South Australia who invited our Calming Suite Team to come again after last year doing our I Am ENOUGH program, and this time present our new Glowing + Growing program to over 90+ year 10-12 Girl Boarding Students.

The atmosphere was electric! The positive vibe was undeniable, and so many students willing to interact and share their thoughts, come on stage to demonstrate techniques and were so engaging. Also, to the large number of students who walked out after the presentation and gave their boarding head master a thumbs up, THANKYOU!! 🥰 That was so sweet

We are all very motivated now to keep on helping as many teen girls as we can across Australia knowing how many are truly struggling.

I will be popping out small videos of us in the next few days demonstrating parts of the Glowing + Growing Program. Be sure to check those out!

Thank you 🙏 Angela Catterns, Host of Sydney's Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Breakfast Radio Show for Inviting me Today as an Expert Speaker to Discuss the Topic of Age-Gap Relationships.

It is wonderful to see that these types of conversations are starting to become something people are willing to speak about with less bias, judgement, stigma, and prejudice.

Everyone is certainly within their right to carry their own values, opinions, feelings and thoughts about and aspect of humanity and life itself (including age-gap relationships). Maybe you are comfortable with it, maybe you are not. And that is okay.

But I think it is mostly important to also be respectful to others if their choices and values do not match our own, and in 2025 I would hope we have moved into an era of embracing a notion of inclusivity and diversity

One of the most common fears I see and hear in my clients is the idea of firstly unpacking their trauma and secondly overcoming it.

And in many ways, you can compassionately understand why. I have been there myself and totally get it. Going through it in the first instance was heart wrenching and painful enough, and no one wants to feel that again. So, sometimes this sense of just trying to block it out by shoving as far deep as one can, just seems like the only possible way to deal with it.

Often however, even with one’s best efforts to do this, over the years you just start to experience a wrath of your mental health worsening, and almost like everything in your life is turning upside down.

Like a hand from nowhere just taps you on the shoulder and whispers in your ear “you will never be good enough, this is not over” and then whacks you with excruciating anxiety, insomnia, sweating flashbacks, and a racing mind that is so hard to shut off only the darkest of distractions even have a chance (alcohol, starvation, drugs, self-harm and worse).

And then it just cascades into a spiral of never-ending carnage because those maladaptive ways of coping the next day make it even worse (anger, guilt, shame, fear others reject/hate you, it fuels the trance of unworthiness).

And sadly, this is what trauma does to people. You can go years thinking you have conquered it by blocking it out and then out of nowhere it shows up almost like a whisper "it's time".

But i want you to know both as someone who has gone through quite severe trauma, and also now specialising in trauma ass a clinical psychologist, you do not have to go through this. You do have wonderful, powerful trauma therapies out there now, alongside really effective modalities that can gently, and safely help you through it. In the hands of a compassionate and experience psychologist, you will not be triggered, and they will be able to hold you and safely bring you out of it to the other side.

Maybe it is time to break through the cracks
