The older I get, the more I realise that people who can laugh at themselves are carrying one of life’s greatest superpowers.

Life is messy.
Kids spill things.
You say the wrong word in public.
You wave back at someone who wasn’t waving at you.
You trip over absolutely nothing.
You burn dinner while talking about “slowing down and being present.”

And honestly?
If you can’t laugh at yourself through it all, life becomes very heavy very quickly.

Somewhere along the way, too many adults started believing they had to be polished, serious, perfect and composed 24/7… meanwhile the best memories are usually born in chaos, belly laughs, terrible decisions, and moments that make you say:
“well… that was humbling.”

The ability to hold perspective, find humour in the hard moments, and not take yourself too seriously is freedom.

Because at the end of the day, nobody gets out of this life looking like the cool trendy Mum the entire time anyway. 😂

There is no prize for rushing through the wonder years.

No trophy for the busiest schedule, the earliest milestones, or the most packed calendar.

Childhood was never meant to feel like constant pressure to keep up.

Homeschooling has taught our family to slow down enough to notice the magic in the ordinary:
the backyard discoveries, the endless questions, the creative mess, the deep conversations, the freedom to learn through living.

It has reminded me that children flourish when they are given time to simply be children.

To explore.
To rest.
To imagine.
To grow into themselves naturally instead of being hurried along.

And maybe one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is not a head start in life…
but a childhood they don’t need to recover from.

✨ The real magic is not just in the oils.
It’s in the people who continue to show up month after month, choosing health, connection, growth, and community. 🌿

To the incredible women who gather around our tables, open their hearts, share their stories, and prioritise their wellbeing - thank you.

And to the beautiful men who support the women they love in doing this work, who come along, learn, encourage, and grow beside them - thank you too.

You are the reason the legacy of plant medicine will continue far beyond this generation. Every roller bottle made, every conversation shared, every small change in the home creates a ripple effect that will reach your children, your grandchildren, and the generations still to come.

What we are building together is so much bigger than products.
It is education.
It is empowerment.
It is prevention.
It is learning to honour the body before it whispers louder for our attention.

There is something incredibly powerful about realising early enough in life that our health truly is everything. Because when everything else is stripped away, the way we feel in our body, mind, and spirit matters most.

I never take for granted the privilege of standing at the forefront of this mission beside all of you - surrounded by plant medicine, surrounded by extraordinary humans, and supported in a way I genuinely wish every person in the world could experience.

There’s something powerful about what happens inside a yoga studio…
the breath slows, the mind softens, the body remembers how to feel safe.

But what happens when you walk out the door?

This is where the real practice begins.

Essential oils are such a beautiful way to extend that sense of calm, grounding and connection into everyday life. They become anchors - little (but powerful) rituals you can return to when life feels loud, fast, or overwhelming.

Thank you so much to for inviting me to be a guest speaker at tonight’s RESTORE event. It was truly such a special space to be part of, and so lovely to meet so many incredible, open-hearted people.

We spoke about how simple, natural tools can support our emotional health and wellbeing in really meaningful ways.

There are moments in life where the real lesson presents itself...

Today was one of them.

We’ve been homeschooling our boys for over nine years now.
Our oldest went on to complete his high school certificate and successfully completed a diploma in counselling.

And now our second son (15) is stepping into that next phase - finishing his Year 10 equivalent and exploring pathways aligned with what he actually loves… music, creativity, composing.

So we thought, let’s do the “right” thing.
Let’s go to TAFE and explore the options.

Within moments of arriving the conversation shifted - not toward his future… but toward defending our past.

“I don’t understand homeschooling.”
“How are you qualified to teach all those subjects?”

And once again, I found myself explaining something I’ve lived and breathed for nearly a decade:

That education is no longer confined to a classroom.
That the world is at our fingertips.
That my role isn’t to force my child into a standardised box -
but to help him discover who he is, and build experiences around that.

Which is exactly why we were there 😉

But instead of guidance… we got questioned.
Instead of pathways… we got pushback.

45 minutes later - a meeting that could have been an email - we left.

As we walked towards the car park my son said:

"I’m so grateful I’ve been homeschooled.”

And just like that - everything was affirmed (once again)

Not out of frustration.
Not out of rebellion (well not entirely 🤪)

But out of clarity.

This path we’ve chosen?
It works.

Not because it’s perfect -
but because it’s intentional.

Because we know our children.
And they know themselves.

We will get him his certificate.

We will find the right course.
We will create the right opportunities - like we always have.

But today reminded me of something important:

Don’t let the system shake your certainty.
Don’t let other people’s limitations become your doubts.

And mr 9 was there listening to this experience of his brothers and taking it all in.

You don’t need approval to choose differently.
You just need conviction.

I was a little girl
small enough to sit at his feet
big enough to notice everything

the way his hands held his glass
steady, but not quite
the way silence lived in the room
even when he spoke

I asked questions
because no one had told me not to

I asked what it was like
what he saw
what he carried home besides his uniform

he would smile at first
give me the version meant for children
soft edges
carefully folded truths

but I learned quickly
that truth had a different voice

it came after one whiskey
sometimes two
when the space between words grew thinner
and the past stopped waiting politely

I watched his eyes more than I listened
how they drifted somewhere far from our lounge room
how they held things he never named

I began to understand
not the war itself
but the weight of it

it lived in his body
in the way he sat
in the pauses that stretched too long

it lived in his mind
in stories that stopped halfway
in sentences that changed direction

I learned to hear what wasn’t said
to sit inside the quiet with him
to read the spaces between words

both of my grandfathers carried that same quiet
different stories
same shadows

both of them came home
which felt, even then, like something rare
something we were not supposed to take lightly

I was just a girl
who loved her grandfathers
and wanted to understand them

now I stand in a different place

I watch three young men grow
strong, certain, untouched by war
their laughter unbroken
their futures wide open

and I see the line that connects them
back through time
through sacrifice
through survival

they do not know war
because others did

because their great grandfathers stood in places
no one should have to stand
and carried things
no one should have to carry

the stories did not end with them

they live here now
in memory
in gratitude
in the quiet understanding of what was given

it is ours to hold

not the war
but the meaning of it

to remember
to speak
to honour

to carry forward something invisible
but unbreakable

the spirit of those who stood
and endured
and came home changed

and built a life anyway

we are the ones who follow

the daughters
the sons
the granddaughters
the grandsons

and it is ours now
to stand in a different way

to protect what was paid for
to live in a way that proves it mattered

to keep something alive
that cannot be seen
but can be lost

if we forget

this country
this freedom
this quiet, ordinary peace

it did not come easily

and it does not belong only to the past

it lives here
in us

and it asks something of us still.

Don’t worry about those homeschooled kids.

They’re having conversations with people of all ages.
They’re learning how to communicate in real-life settings.
They’re building confidence outside of a single peer group.

They’re not confined to a classroom of same-age children
for the majority of their day.

They’re in the world.
With their families.
With community.
With people who model real life.

Because here’s the truth:

Socialisation isn’t about proximity.
It’s about quality.

And when you look a little closer,
you start to realise…

Homeschooled children aren’t lacking socialisation.

They’re experiencing a different kind.

One that often includes:
– mixed-age interaction
– deeper family connection
– real-world communication
– flexibility to explore their interests

And no - it’s not perfect.

But neither is the alternative.

So instead of asking
“are they socialised?”

Maybe we should be asking:

what kind of socialisation actually matters?

Hi, I’m Rachel - and alongside my husband Clinton, we’re building something very different.
