It’s not always easy to tell when big and over-the-top romantic gestures from a new partner are genuine… or when they’re being used to pull you in or pressure you into things you’re not OK with.

Setting clear boundaries — including how you use tech together — helps keep relationships healthy, especially when you're getting to know each other.

In a respectful relationship, you don’t feel pressured to change, you can say no safely, and you can talk about what’s OK and what’s not as things grow.

Respect looks like:
✅ Being yourself
✅ Feeling safe to say “no”
✅ Talking openly about what’s OK and what’s not.

Disrespect looks like:
❌ “Share your location to prove you love me”
❌ Telling you what to post
❌ Getting upset when you add someone on socials.

The answer is all of the above☝️

Today is Economic Abuse Awareness Day (26 November) with the theme of 'Awareness to Action'.

Economic abuse is a form of domestic and family violence that restricts a person’s ability to access, use, or maintain financial resources, threatening their security and independence.

It can involve controlling behaviours like limiting access to money, employment, or assets.

We have chosen to talk about sexual choking for 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence because the digital environment normalises sexual choking, making it seem like everyone is doing it, and that this sexual activity is risk-free. This can lead to situations where people are choked without specifically agreeing to it (sexual violence) as well as serious health consequences for the person being choked. We want everyone to know that every time you choke someone, or let someone choke you, there is a risk of serious injury, brain injury and death.
