A centre for Metabolic Health is coming to the Shoalhaven!

Last week we said goodbye to Brainfit and Kidfit Exercise Physiology. Brodie has been our friend and colleague at Nowra Allied Health Centre for over 6 years. We will miss the joy and laughter that Brodie brings to the gym and her passion and commitment to health.

Brodie will continue to operate Brainfit and Kidfit Exercise Physiology in the Shoalhaven community and will be setting up a centre for Metabolic Health at a new location (currently looking at venues with a new address to be announced ASAP).

The staff of Nowra Allied Health Center would like to assure you that we are adhering to the Department of Health and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency guidelines. We ask that all patients please notify us prior to your appointment if you have recently been overseas, have been in close contact with a confirmed or a suspected Coronovirus (Covid-19) case or have cold or flu like symptoms.

Some ways that you can individually reduce transmission -
*Practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against most viruses.

You should:
*Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
*Cover your cough and sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser
*If unwell, avoid contact with others (stay more than 1.5 metres from people)
*Exercise personal responsibility for social distancing measures

We are committed to ensuring the safety of our patients and staff and will continue to keep you updated.

The pre-season is in full swing and shin splints (a blanket name for shin complaints) will begin to rear their ugly head with some athletes. Unfortunately, this is not a condition to push through and hope that it goes away.
Diagnosis of the causative factors by your health professional is key. But in the mean time some helpful advice may include -
*Build up your workload nice and slowly. Going too hard too fast doesn't give your body enough time to adapt and can lead to injury.
*Spending more time in your supportive joggers at training before switching to the footy boots.
*Stay off the hard roads. Run on grass.
*Instead of complete rest, try cross training activities that are pain free such as swimming or cycling.

With all general advice please consult your local podiatrist first.
