There are three main ways we strike the ground when we run: with our heels, midfoot, or forefoot. While heel striking often feels natural for beginners, it can actually increase the risk of injuries like shin splints and plantar fasciitis. It also works against your body’s natural propulsion, making your run less efficient.

On the other hand, running with a midfoot strike is considered the most efficient technique. It improves propulsion, reduces impact through the lower leg, and lowers your injury risk.
