Fridays are for being lighthearted about the process of therapy...

As therapists (and humans!) we know it's sometimes hard to name our feelings and own up to the behaviours that no longer work for us, but we're here to help you through the process. Even if you do hiss and throw yourself on the floor like an opossum. 🙂

Good morning!

A quick reminder that Kat and I have moved next door.
You'll still be able to get great coffee and enjoy the hub of the 5th Avenue Lifestyle Building, just from 2m down the corridor.

Looking forward to seeing you at our new premises soon.

It's ok to ask for what you need from a relationship. It's not being 'clingy' or 'needy' - meeting these needs is part of the fundamental basis of love and trust. If your person can't give you these basics, without making you feel like you're asking too much, then maybe they aren't the person for you...

Once upon a time, therapy was seen as the domain of the insane, rich, or self-indulgent. Thankfully in recent times, it has been normalised so much so, that you will be hard pressed to find a woman under 50 who hasn't been to counselling at some stage in her life.

The best thing about therapy is that no matter why you come, you will be listened to without judgement, and treated with unconditional positive regard.

Do you have any good counselling stories to share with us?

When we started this practice, we aimed to be a safe and welcoming space for women of all ages, s*xuality, race, class, religion, ability, size, diagnoses, and nationality to seek counselling and connection. In the excitement of opening and seeing our lovely clients, we made the gut-wrenching error of not making it explicitly clear that at Harmonious Minds, we believe that the only true feminism is intersectional and that we are 100% a trans-allied space.

Regardless of the s*x you were assigned at birth, if you identify as female, you are welcome at Harmonious Minds. We have been working hard to make sure we are across the issues that transgender women may experience, both uniquely trans issues, and those that just come with being a woman. We’re sorry that it has taken us so long to make our views and values around this clear.

Much love,

Angie & Kat 💗

Some of us are lucky enough to have had this instilled in us from an early age, while others of us need to learn how to be OK with the possibility of disappointing people when we speak our truth.

Luckily, the truth always has a way of finding the light, and teaching yourself to be comfortable with other people's discomfort is essential for positive self regard, and resisting shame.

When we speak our truth with no fear of reprisal, only then can we be who we really are.

These are tricky times to navigate as a small business, but for the meantime, until we receive further instructions, Harmonious Minds will remain open as usual.

We have hand-washing facilities in the clinic as well as anti-bacterial wipes and disinfectant spray for any surfaces that clients and I come into contact with. We will remain at least 1.5m apart for the entire session, and I will clean the clinic between sessions. In short, we will be doing our part to ensure that hygiene and sterilisation practices are upheld in our clinic to curb the outbreak of infection while still being of use to our lovely clients and the wider community.

We would also like all of our clients to know that during this time we have waived our 24 hour cancellation policy. If you wake up feeling unwell, or unsure about attending a session, we encourage you to stay at home and self isolate as the government is advising. Please call the clinic to cancel and we can make other arrangements for your session.

We are offering Skype and Zoom sessions for clients who still want their session, but are socially isolating. Please email us for more info on this process.

On a final note, our hearts go out to everyone affected by this event and say a special thank you to the health care workers who are working on the front line to help us in this pandemic. Let’s all stay calm, hygienic and safe.

Lots of love, Angie & Kat. ❤️

What's your Self-Love Language? This weekend, I'm showing myself a whole lotta love and choosing one from each category:

Physical Touch: Lying around in soft blankets
Acts of Service: Going out dancing with my friends
Receiving Gifts: Treating myself to the indulgence of a facial
Quality Time: Relaxing with Netflix
Words of Affirmation: Reminding myself that even though I'm not always 100% who I aim to be, I'm ok with that, because what I am is already pretty awesome.

Happy International Women's Day!

International Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8.

The day has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911.

The day is not country, group or organisation specific - and belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained "The story of women's struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights."

So make International Women's Day your day and do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women.

Just another timely reminder to give yourself a break this weekend.

We're all so busy all of the time, that sometimes resting and recovering from the week seems lazy, or a waste of precious time.

However, studies show that resting at least one day a week can stave off burnout, and actually increase productivity when we need it.

Rest gives our body and mind time to do 'housekeeping' - the creative and organisational processes that get put on the back-burner when we are task oriented.

Rest, sleep, and saying no to overwork is actually the best way to get the most from your mind and body. And who doesn't need that?
