Habit stacking is a technique where you attach a new habit to an existing one to make it easier to incorporate into your routine and build new behaviors. By leveraging established routines, you reduce the mental effort required to start a new habit, making it more likely to stick.
Leveraging Existing Cues: Your brain is wired to respond to cues from established habits. By linking a new habit to an existing one, you create a clear cue that triggers the new behavior.
Reducing Mental Load: Instead of trying to remember to do a new task, you simply associate it with something you already do regularly.
Building Momentum: As you consistently pair the new habit with the existing one, it becomes more automatic and ingrained.
For example if you want to drink more water pair this new habit with an existing one like brushing your teeth. Have a glass in the bathroom so it's easy to do the new habit. Make the new habit as easy and visible as possible.
