Let me guess your reflux story:
You went to your GP complaining of heartburn, reflux, maybe chest pain.
They asked a few questions. Maybe did an endoscopy if you were lucky.
Then handed you a script for Nexium, Somac, or Pariet.
"Take this. It'll help."
And it did. For a while.
But then you needed it every day. Then twice a day. Then the reflux came back anyway.
So you went back. And they said "just keep taking it."
Here's what they didn't tell you:
Proton Pump Inhibitors were designed for SHORT-TERM use. 4-8 weeks max.
Not years. Not decades. Not "for life."
Because while they're suppressing your stomach acid, they're also:
- Destroying your ability to absorb B12, iron, calcium, magnesium
- Increasing your risk of osteoporosis and fractures
- Disrupting your gut microbiome (leading to SIBO, dysbiosis, C. diff infections)
- Impairing your protein digestion
- Increasing dementia risk (yes, really - check the research)
- Making it nearly impossible to GET OFF them (rebound hyperacidity is real)
But here's the real problem:
They never investigated WHY you have reflux in the first place.
When you work with me, I'm not suppressing your reflux. I'm investigating it.
🔎Is it SIBO pushing acid up? (Breath test)
🔎Is it actually LOW stomach acid? (Functional assessment)
🔎Is it H. pylori infection? (Comprehensive stool analysis)
🔎Is it bile reflux from gallbladder issues? (Clinical assessment)
🔎Is it a hiatal hernia? (Referral for imaging)
Different root causes require different protocols.
Your reflux is a messenger. Stop shooting the messenger with medication.
Let's investigate what it's actually trying to tell you.
