Osteoporosis is something that concerns everybody!
Our top tips for healthy strong bones are:
1. Weight bearing 🚶♂️🏃♀️exercise - aim for 30 minutes most days of the week.
2. Manage stress - bones release calcium in response to stress.
3. Get adequate calcium 🥛in your diet - and pair it with vitamin D ☀️ to enhance absorption and promote stronger bones.
4. Have the right amount of protein - when consumed in moderation, it balances the absorption of calcium but an excessive amount of protein may result in calcium loss.
5. Prioritse bone health - at least in your 30s when bone loss naturally begins.
6. Don't ignore hormones - in women, osteoporosis can happen when estrogen levels are low, especially after menopause. For men, low levels of testosterone can make bones weaker.
If you are osteopenic, osteoporitic or have pain preventing you from weight bearing exercise - having guidance from our physiotherapists is essential.
For help with managing stress, managing your diet and hornonal health - our occuptional therapists and naturopath can help.

"Dani and Jack" are a para-dressage partnership that we have the absolute joy of working with.
This amazing Australian squad duo will be crossing the Nullabor to compete at the 2024 National Para-Dressage Championships in Sydney next week.
To help with getting ready for this event, Sasha and Rushil made an onsite visit! Rushil took Dani (and Jack) through some stretching and exercises!
Getting to this point has been 2 years of training and is the next step toward Dani's ultimate goal of representing Australia in the Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games.
Rushil and Sasha have been supporting Dani for the past 2 years and so it was really great to meet Jack and gain a much better understanding of the challenges for both horse and rider.
Dani's determination and commitment is so inspiring and we love nothing better than being a part of helping people to achieve their life goals.
Jonathan was teaching acupuncture dry needling in Manilla, Philippines last week for
He had an awesome time with an enthusiastic group of physiotherapists and is looking forward to coming back to run more courses with and the

One thing we want people to get from their initial appointment at Next Wave Therapy -
A clear plan of how they are going to manage their condition or presentation.
This plan looks at where they are now today and how they are going to get to where they want to be in the future.
The plan will act like a map with key time points of what they are going to do, what we are going to do together and if anyone else needs to be involved.
Thanks for the isights from our prinical physiotherapist Jonathan Wray (FACP)
It seem so simple but creatign that map can sometimes be very challenging.
- a physio or OT assessment helps you to make informed choices about what your map will look like
- the therapist is then walks with you like a guide along the path to recovery.

When it comes to osteoarthritis, we help you think outside the box.
Research shows that exercise, surgery and medication each give about 25% relief for from pain related to OA.
There is no statistic for the other 25% but it is known that getting a good nights sleep has a huge impact on pain management.
So what else is there?
The infographic has a heap of other strategies that our physiotherapists and occupational therapists use at Next Wave Therapy and what the research supports.
The problem is that there are so many things that could be done.
Some people try a few of these changes but it's easy to get overwhelmed or disheartened if they aren't effective.
The key is to identify what you actually need and not what you think you need or what someone has told you that you need.
Above all, research shows that the most meaningful change comes from a management plan that is :
personally created with you
focuses on your values
helps you to fully participate in the things you need and want to do in life, your occupations.
