Today marks R U OK? Day. ⭐️

Showing their support for this initiative, team members at Central wore yellow clothing and accessories, the colour used to symbolise hope.

This year’s theme, ‘Ask R U Ok? Any Day’, highlights the importance of checking in every day, normalising regular and meaningful chats about mental health and wellbeing.

At Warrigal, we are committed to fostering a supportive environment built on empathy and genuine care. As part of this commitment to prioritise the mental health of staff and those in our care, our Support Services Team have been participating in a wellness series, consisting of various interactive seminars.

Last week, the team received valuable insights from Dan Hunt, co-founder of the Mental Health Movement, engaging in the ‘Check In’ and ‘Power of Story’ sessions. This seminar highlighted the importance of not only checking in with others but also checking in with yourself, providing effective strategies to do this. This presentation, along with others in the series, have better equipped the team, providing them with useful tools and a support network as they navigate their personal mental health journeys.

Today is an important reminder to check in with your loved ones, coworkers, and friends. Simply asking ‘Are you ok?’ can make all the difference to someone. 💛

Mount Terry celebrated Father’s Day with an amazing vintage car show. 🚗

Bringing together residents, staff, and community members with a shared passion for cars, this was a memorable event, enjoyed by all!

The day held greater meaning for one of our residents who previously owned one of the cars on display – the green and white Holden, which he raced for an impressive 25 years.

Everyone had an amazing time taking a look at the incredible vintage cars on show, with a few brave residents even going for a joy ride on the back of a trike!

Thank you to the generous members of the South Coast Vintage Car Club and the Jamberoo Classic Car Club for volunteering your time, helping the home mark Father’s Day with this fantastic event. 🌟

Thank you for all the encouragement, wisdom, lessons, and advice that you have given, shaping us into the people we are today. We appreciate all that you do and today, we celebrate you! ❤️

With an exciting events calendar, our Stirling home has been busy joining together for lively events, recently marking Teej and Daffodil Day!

The home’s celebration of Teej, the vibrant Hindu festival celebrating womanhood, love and strength, filled the home with an incredible atmosphere. Sharing Nepalese food, wearing beautiful traditional dress and joining together in dance, this was a special occasion that celebrated the rich culture of Nepal. 🇳🇵

Recently, our residents also joined for a lovely high tea to mark Daffodil Day, Cancer Council’s annual fundraising initiative. Complete with delicious sweets, yellow decorations, and an exciting raffle, everyone had a great time coming together in support of those in need, raising funds for vital cancer research. 🌼

The latest from Lake South…

The exciting progress of our Lake South project, our newest community village currently under construction, continues!

The project is visually taking shape and we’ve hit some significant milestones in the build including the completion of our four prototype villas! As the village’s vision comes to life with each new development, we’ve recently conducted site tours, offering our Company Members, Board Members, Executive Members, and local MP, Anna Watson, a glimpse into life at Lake South. 🏠

These visits have not only been a wonderful opportunity for everyone to experience the excitement of Lake South, but they have also highlighted the important role of community villages as ageing within the community has transformed.

Lake South will be more than a place to call home, it will be a vibrant and connected community, where individuals can age in place. 💜

On Wednesday, we held our Ageing Well with event and what a successful day it was! 🌟

This free seminar brought together community members including older people, their loved ones and their carers, connecting them with local service providers to assist in navigating their aged care journey.

The event began with informative presentations from Warrigal and Dementia Australia that highlighted the importance of prioritising physical, mental and emotional well-being and shared valuable insights into brain health, and the services available to help maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

Following the presentations, guests were given the opportunity to connect with various local service providers, all in the one place, accessing resources and receiving useful advice tailored to personal needs.

Thank you to everyone who attended the seminar and to the local organisations who joined us in supporting and educating older people within the community. 💜

🌟 Social Spotlight 🌟

Meet Ann, Donovan, Julian and Ethan, four students from Taipei Medical University who are currently taking part in an immersive experience, volunteering at our Wollongong home.

With an exciting activities calendar and engaging program of guest speakers, including members of the Warrigal team and PhD students from the University of Wollongong, this experience has provided valuable insights into aged care in Australia.

The exchange of knowledge, stories and aspects of culture has been a special element of this program, not only for the students - one referring to the experience like putting together a storybook, but for the residents and staff at Warrigal Wollongong. Through their interactions with our residents, these students have added to the wonderful atmosphere within the home including at the home’s recent birthday celebration, where happy birthday was sung in Taiwanese! 🇹🇼

🎥 Watch the video below to hear from the students, and Ayleen, one of our Lifestyle Officers, to find out about the differences between aged care in Taiwan and Australia, the impact this experience has had at Warrigal Wollongong, and the importance of embracing opportunities like these!
