My 5 horror movies as a midwife, mama and nutrition consultant…
(but it doesn’t have to be that way)
1. The Iron Deficiency
“It starts with fatigue.”
Low ferritin in preconception → worsens in pregnancy → nothing left for postpartum recovery.
2. The Naked Carb Spiral
“You thought carbs would help… but they made it worse.”
Toast, crackers, fruit on repeat → blood sugar spikes and crashes → nausea intensifies, energy tanks.
3. The ‘Normal Range’ Illusion
“Technically fine… actually not.”
Ferritin, B12, vitamin D, thyroid all “normal,” but far from optimal.
4. Postpartum Depletion: Running on Empty
“You’re doing everything… but still feel exhausted.”
Low nutrients, poor sleep, high demands and no one checking what your body needs to recover.
5. The Unwanted Visitor
“They came to ‘help’… but stayed for the baby.”
Postpartum with no boundaries → interrupted rest, overstimulation, pressure to host.
When support turns into stress, recovery takes the hit.
