What is Patellar Tracking?
Patellar tracking disorder occurs when the kneecap (patella) shifts out of its normal groove on the femur, often moving towards the outside of the leg.
Causes:
1. Anatomical Factors: A shallow groove, high-riding kneecap (patella alta), or a large Q-angle can lead to misalignment.
2. Muscle Imbalances: Weakness or tightness in surrounding muscles may affect tracking.
3. Trauma: Injuries, like a direct blow or dislocation, can disrupt kneecap support.
4. Overuse: Repetitive activities such as running or jumping can strain the knee.
Solutions:
• Strengthening exercises for surrounding muscles
• Stretching tight areas
• Proper footwear and biomechanics for activities
• Rest and rehabilitation for injuries
