🌿 Understanding Sciatica & How Massage May Help 🌿

“Sciatica” is a term many people use to describe pain that travels through the lower back, hips, glutes, or down the leg. However, not all sciatic symptoms are exactly the same, and the underlying causes can vary from person to person.

In many cases, muscular tension, postural strain, prolonged sitting, tight glutes, or lower back tightness can contribute to sciatic-type discomfort — and this is where massage can often be very beneficial. 😊

Symptoms that commonly respond well to massage may include:
✨ Tightness and stiffness through the hips, glutes, and lower back
✨ Aching discomfort after sitting or standing for long periods
✨ Muscular tension related to desk work or physical strain
✨ Mild nerve irritation associated with tight surrounding muscles

Massage may help by:
🌿 Reducing muscular tension
🌿 Improving circulation and mobility
🌿 Helping the nervous system relax
🌿 Relieving pressure around surrounding soft tissues

However, not all sciatic symptoms are suitable for massage treatment, and some situations require more caution or further medical assessment first.

Please seek further medical advice before massage if symptoms include:
⚠️ Significant numbness or weakness
⚠️ Severe or rapidly worsening pain
⚠️ Loss of bladder or bowel control
⚠️ Difficulty walking or loss of leg strength
⚠️ Acute injury or severe nerve symptoms

Every body is different, and the most appropriate treatment always depends on the underlying cause and how your body is presenting on the day. 😊

At My Oasis Massage, treatments are always tailored individually with comfort, safety, and long-term wellbeing in mind. 🌿

📖✨As a massage therapist, I’ve noticed that tension isn’t only physical. Stress, overthinking, pressure, and emotional exhaustion often show up in the body too — tight shoulders, headaches, jaw tension, fatigue.

Massage can help release muscle tension, calm the nervous system and help the body relax. Sometimes the right book helps the mind relax too. One of the most impactful books I’ve read is The Four Agreements 📖✨ It’s a simple but powerful book about reducing stress, finding more inner peace, and changing the way we relate to ourselves and others.

If you’ve been feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained lately, I highly recommend giving this book a read. It’s one of those books people often come back to again and again at different stages of life.

Have you read it before? Or is there a book that’s helped you slow down and see life differently? 👇

A big thank you to everyone who came along to our walk today! It was so lovely to see such a wonderful group of people coming together to enjoy the fresh air, good company, and beautiful surroundings.

Walking is always better when shared, and today was a great reminder of how powerful simple moments can be—moving our bodies, chatting, laughing, and connecting with each other.

I’m so grateful for each of you who showed up and made today's walk such a positive and welcoming experience. 💛

Looking forward to many more walks together! If you enjoyed today, feel free to invite friends to join us next time—everyone is welcome.

🌱 Stay active, stay connected, and see you on the next walk!

It feels like it is "melting" the tension, intense enough to release tension, but never painful enough to make you hold your breath or tense up. The best pressure is one that allows your body to relax into the work, it might feel a certain degree of soreness yet your body is stil saying ‘more please’.

Here is a guide to help you determine your ideal pressure:

1. Identify Your Goal and Pressure Level

Light Pressure (Relaxation/Beginner): Best for reducing stress, improving circulation, or if you are new to massage. It works on surface layers to promote a deep sense of calm.

Moderate/Medium Pressure (Most Common): This is the "sweet spot" for many, offering a firm but comfortable touch that reduces stiffness and relieves mild tension without pain.

Firm/Deep Pressure (Chronic Pain/Athletes): Ideal for targeting chronic tension, "knots" (trigger points), or recovery from intense activity. It works through deeper muscle layers.

2.Key Indicators of Right vs. Wrong Pressure

Right Pressure: You can breathe deeply and relax, even if the spot is tender. The pressure feels like it is "melting" the tension.

Wrong Pressure: You are clenching your toes, holding your breath, or bracing against the therapist.

3. Important Considerations

It can change: Your ideal pressure may change based on stress levels, hydration, or even the specific body part (e.g., your back might handle deep pressure while your neck needs gentle work).

"No Pain, No Gain" is a Myth: Excessive pressure can cause bruising and make you more tense.

Speak up: Your therapist can only know if the pressure is right if you tell them. You can always ask for "more pressure," "less pressure," or "that’s perfect".
