Post-Acupuncture Care
☯️☯️☯️
Acupuncture is not dry needling.
Acupuncture is something much more powerful and fascinating with a very rich cultural history. The skilled acupuncturists of the world are capable of treating a myriad of issues; far beyond musculoskeletal pain.
Through ancient gates, now called acupuncture points, they travel into realms of creation & birth. They conjure & command bodily fluids and blood. They influence the wells, springs, streams, rivers, and seas of Qi to restore harmony to the body that needs healing.
This is a dynamic process.
All my patients hear the same sentiment after their treatment, on their way out the door.
"For the next 24 to 48 hours, take it easy. Your Qi is adjusting."
☯️☯️☯️
There is plenty of information out there on what an acupuncture session involves, but what a patient does AFTER acupuncture is just as important.
You've just had an acupuncture session. What should you do for the next 24-48 hours?
Take it easy = Life gets busy. Use this post-treatmemt time as an excuse to slow down so you can listen to your bodies messages, aches, pains, needs, and cravings. So many things our bodies are experiencing and feeling are tuned out by obligations, work, money, schedules, goals, achieve, don't stop, the economy, blah blah blah.
Sleep more if you need to = Sleep is an underrated natural healing mechanism in modern society. I'm a single mum. I get it. For some, sleep is an elusive & beautiful gift.
Have warm fluids & eat cooked foods = A living human body is WARM. Take the pressure off your metabolism and digestion by having cooked meals and warm drinks. Your Qi is too busy in healing mode to be dealing with other extremes. Save your Qi where possible. Spend it cautiously where possible. Consume gently and in moderation.
Contact your TCM Doctor if you have immediate concerns = Follow your instincts and direct questions and concerns to your Acupuncturist. This can help determine if immediate reactions post-acupuncture are expected or unusual.
☯️☯️☯️
More often than not, in my own humble clinical experience, Qi is simply adjusting. Things are changing.
Give it 24-48 hours.
