If you could take 2 minutes out of your busy day to sign this e-petition I would be forever grateful....
The current rate Physiotherapists get for treating DVA clients is just so low, it is unsustainable. More than a quarter of physiotherapy clinics in Australia no longer treat DVA clients. The rate physiotherapists get paid has not increased significantly (ever) and is well below what other therapists such as OTs and podiatrists receive.
An APA survey showed that 91% of clinics stated they won't be able to continue to provide services. There has been years of consultation with DVA with no action.

The next common Cricket injury we will be looking at is Ankle Sprains

🏏 How do Ankle Sprains usually occur in Cricket? 🏏

🏏These types of injuries usually occur during sudden change of direction, jumping, landing and running on uneven surfaces
🏏 Most likely to occur while bowling (more frequent in pace bowlers) during their run up, during the take off period many bowlers have before going into their action, or when landing to perform action
🏏 This type of injury is more likely to occur earlier in the season or if fatigue levels are increased
🏏 Can also happen while field if a short, sharp run or change of direction is required, e.g. running to field a ball in the outfield

πŸ₯ How do we treat these injuries? πŸ₯

πŸ₯ After an injury like this, the best idea would be to cease game play, book in with a health professional such as a Physiotherapist, and follow the PEACE & LOVE Protocol which stands for:
- Protect
- Elevate
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medication and ice
- Compression
- Education
- Load
- Optimism
- Vascularisation
- Exercise

❌How do we prevent these injuries occurring? ❌

❌ Same as Hamstring Strains, it is impossible to fully eliminate the risk of Ankle Sprains in sport, but the risk of injury can be greatly reduced with correctly implemented training and warm up
❌ Implement balance and ankle stability based exercise into regular program.
❌ Movement based technique training - this will assist with ingraining movement patterns while fresh and under fatigue to reduce risk of technique break down
❌ Add resistance and plyometric based lower limb exercises to gym training (does not have to be calf focused but some movements should mimic movements such as jumping, landing, change of direction, etc.)

With cricket season in full swing, the Orange Family Physio team will be releasing a series on common cricketing injuries. We will look at reasons they usually occur, their treatment, as well as how to reduce risk of injury.

The first injury we will be investigating will be Hamstring Strains

🏏How do hamstring strains usually occur in cricket?🏏

🏏 Hamstrings strains in cricket usually occur due to sudden and reactive change of direction and speed at which someone is travelling at e.g. standing start to sprinting
🏏 These injuries can happen in a wide range of situations in a cricket match. For example
- While fielding and having to produce a maximal effort sprint to catch a ball which may have be hit high into the air or during a potential runout opportunity
- Going for a quick single while batting and/or having to over extend or dive to reach crease
- While bowling (particularly in pace bowlers) due to amount of load placed through the stance leg during the bowling action as the knee is usually forced into a high load/force extension as the ball is released

πŸ₯How do we treat these injuries? πŸ₯

πŸ₯ After an injury like this, the best idea would be to cease game play, book in with a health professional such as a Physiotherapist, and follow the PEACE & LOVE Protocol which stands for:

- Compression

- Load
- Optimism
- Vascularisation
- Exercise

❌ How do we prevent these injuries from occurring? ❌

❌ Like any sporting injury, it is impossible to completely prevent this injury from occurring. But, we can greatly reduce injury risk through specific training and pre game activities.
❌ Implementing a pre-game and between inning and breaks in play warm up routine which features some progressive incrementally increased running plus change of direction and deceleration that may mimic game play
❌ Implementing hamstring based loading exercises into regular training routines. These should include resistance, plyometric, mobility and endurance based exercise
