If you’ve been feeling a little more scattered, restless, or “in your head” lately… it might just be autumn Vata doing its thing 🍂

Good news: you don’t need anything complicated to take the edge off.

Try this simple evening wind-down:

✨ **Foot massage with warm sesame oil**
Just a few minutes before bed. Slow, intentional, no rush. It helps signal your nervous system that it’s safe to soften and switch off. (Bonus: better sleep, warmer body, calmer mind.)

🌬️ **Grounding breath**
Inhale for 4… exhale for 6 (or even 8 if it feels good).
Longer exhales = more calming.
Do this for a couple of minutes while you’re lying down.

That’s it. Small, cozy rituals > big complicated routines.

Autumn isn’t asking you to do more — it’s inviting you to slow down, warm up, and come back to yourself 🤍

Don’t forget my yin yoga session this Sunday! It may be just the thing to relax and ground you 🪷

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to fall, many of us notice something shifting —an undercurrent of restlessness, or unease. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this is no coincidence.

Autumn is governed by *Vata dosha*—the energy of air and space. It’s light, dry, cool, and constantly moving. When Vata rises in the environment, it can do the same within us, leading to feelings of anxiety, overthinking, poor sleep, and a sense of disconnection.

So how do we bring ourselves back to balance?

✨ **Slow down. Warm up. Ground deeply.**

One of Ayurveda’s most powerful tools for calming Vata is **Abhyanga**—a warm oil self-massage. Using oils like sesame or almond, this daily ritual nourishes the nervous system, softens dryness (both physical and emotional). Think of it as wrapping your body in calm.

Pair this with **grounding yoga practices**:
🌿 mindful movements
🌿 Long-held poses like Child’s Pose, Forward Folds, and Legs Up the Wall
🌿 Deep, rhythmic breathing to anchor the mind

Together, these practices help counter the scattered energy of Vata, bringing you back into your body—steady, supported, and present.

This season, instead of pushing through listen to your body. Let autumn be an invitation to root down, soften, and care for yourself more intentionally.

Your calm is not gone—it just needs warmth, oil, and stillness to return 🤍

Book your massage - Ayurvedic or blended with other techniques & join us for some grounding yoga.

We’ll continue our exploration of digestion from an Ayurvedic perspective which we started last month. Massage, and self-massage, with good quality oil is the ultimate self-love.
The Sanskrit word sneha translates to love, tenderness and affection. It also means oil, rooted in the Ayurvedic concept that oiling the body is nurturing, loving act. 💕
It provides what science calls the nervous system regulation.
It allows us to get out of the overthinking, scattered, worrying head and drop back into the body to rest. 💕
It grounds us and is great not just for sore muscles but also for nourishment of the nervous system. 💕
Nourished nervous system helps with stress, decision making, studying, focus, moods, ….💕

We retreated into retreat last week and recharged our batteries with yoga, meditation, delicious vegan food, drumming, exposure to nature and laughter. ✨😁

Back in the studio this week our yoga practice has been focused on the neck, shoulders, our voice and self-expression.
Having regular practice that grounds us and brings the feeling of safety within allows us to express ourselves with bigger freedom and creativity.
Retreating within is the key here as without it we don’t know ourselves and how to express that that we don’t have a clue about?
Let’s not amplify the noise of the world around us, instead share the stillness, stability, joy, beauty, creativity in your unique way! ✨

Start with a massage or gentle yoga session if stopping and turning inwards is difficult for you. ✨

Food fuels and nourishes the body. Your eating is part of your yoga. Feeling light yet grounded in the body and clear in the mind is a byproduct of simple, good food. Yoga and Ayurvedic diet slightly vary from each other, but basically recommend foods that have sustained civilizations for centuries, which, funnily enough, are not in favor today. A variety of grains, vegetables, pulses, spices, and good fats.
What is your favourite simple, good and nourishing meal?
I tend to cook without recipes with what I have on hand but all variations of simple dhal curries are my favourite.
See you on yoga mat or my massage table for more nourishment!
