A few weeks have past and I believe people now are beginning to accept our new way of life for a while.
I felt it fruitless to post nutritional advice and recommendations whilst people were coming to terms with these current circumstances.
Once work, schooling and family has been organised it is then time to refocus on diet. Sedentary living is creeping in along with boredom and cold weather.......a recipe for overeating leading to weight gain!
Everything has been changed and turned upside down so its time to create a new plan:
1. Create a new daily routine that incorporates work and all family members (organising time will help with boredom in turn preventing unnecessary eating and poor mental health)
2. Add into the routine exercise everyday (good mental health practice, and cardiovascular health)
3. Spend time outside each day in the sunlight (vitamin D, mindfulness time and good mental heath practice)
APPROACH TO DIET: (simple BUT not always easy)
1. Don't overeat - focus on 3 meals per day
2. Prepare meals with fresh food containing proteins (animal or plant based) + some grains and plenty of fresh vegetables and some fruit
3. Limit or eliminate sugary foods and takeaway
4. Keep a lid on alcohol consumption
HEALTH SUPPORT:
It is important at all times to build and sustain optimal nutrient levels in the body for good health. Like every flu season the immune system is the focus, particularly while this virus is floating around. Getting a good variety of fruit and vegetables each day will help saturate the body's tissues with vitamin C for most people. Meat, legumes (lentils, chickpeas, beans), nuts, seeds and whole grains are good sources of zinc also needed for optimal immune health and function.
A great diet is a great place to start when looking at improving or supporting your general health. As I say "give the body what it needs to do what it needs to do" and take care of yourself.
