Well done to our Medical Clinic on receiving the ‘Courageous Partnerships’ award with partners GippsDairy & Sale Medical Clinic at last night’s Gippsland Primary Health Awards!

Gippsland Primary Health Award Winner: Courageous Partnerships

🏆 Congratulations to Orbost Regional Health

Orbost Regional Health has been recognised for its proactive collaboration with GippsDairy and Sale Medical Centre to bring Q Fever testing and vaccination clinics to Far East Gippsland - addressing a critical gap in local preventive health services.

Q Fever is a disease caused by bacteria found in livestock such as cattle, sheep, and goats, and can cause serious illness in people who work closely with animals. When an increase in local cases was identified, Orbost Regional Health responded with determination and teamwork, partnering across organisations to upskill local GPs, secure vaccine access, and deliver the region’s first Q Fever clinics.

This initiative has reduced travel barriers, strengthened rural health resilience, and showcased how genuine collaboration can deliver lasting health outcomes for Gippsland communities - a true example of courageous partnerships in action.

Recognising the challenges of distance, the Orbost Medical Clinic is proud to offer essential Home-Based Sleep Study testing right here in the community for just $30. This service bypasses the need for long-distance travel to specialist centres, allowing you to be assessed and monitored in the comfort and familiarity of your own home. The process begins with a detailed eligibility consultation with one of our experienced GPs, followed by a brief 45-minute fitting appointment with our Clinic Nurse. Simply wear the monitoring unit overnight at home and return it the next morning, ensuring convenient and timely access to vital sleep diagnostics.

At Orbost Medical Clinic, we proudly host Mr Malcolm Walker the Foot Specialist on a fortnightly basis. Mal is a qualified podiatrist and is accessible through GP management plans or affordable private consultations. Mal has a keen interest in biomechanics, orthotic therapy and high risk conditions such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease and neuropathy.

After graduating from Latrobe University in 1986, Mal moved to East Gippsland where he was employed by Lakes Entrance Community Health. Mal then gravitated towards his own practice in Bairnsdale and is based there to this day. In 1988, Mal started practicing when Dr David Hollands, Dr Margaret Hollands and Dr Hulme Hay were practicing and 37 years later, he is still practicing out of Orbost Regional Health.
