Seen and Heard Psychology

Seen and Heard Psychology Seen and Heard Psychology offers evidence-based, neuro-affirming support for families.

We help address challenging behaviors by identifying unmet needs and building problem-solving skills with empathy and collaboration using the CPS approach. Sarah Tan is a registered psychologist dedicated to helping parents and caregivers enhance their relationships with their children by fostering collaborative problem-solving skills to address challenging behaviors at home. Drawing from her experience as a parent of two sensitive and sometimes challenging children, Sarah provides empathy and support to those facing similar difficulties. Her calm demeanor and extensive background working with children of various ages and abilities enable her to connect with them thoughtfully and compassionately. Sarah is passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals, including those with Autism, ADHD, PDA, and dyslexia. She is currently accepting referrals for clients aged 6 to 14 and their caregivers.

A year ago, I put a call out to the wider community of neurodivergent families and individuals asking for you to share your tips for surviving when in crisis and/or burnout.

I was tired of hearing inaccessible and unsolicited advice dished out to families and individuals on how to care for ourselves such as going for a walk, drinking tea or meditating when many of us were not able to use the toilet alone let alone go for a walk or make a cup of tea at all.

We've now gone ahead and put your collective wisdom into a free guide - our gift to you.

A HUGE thanks as always to my amazing friend and admin/support extraordinaire Kristy T for collating all of the responses, and putting this guide together.

A surge of professional and personal interest in Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), an autism subtype — which in children can affect everything from cleaning teeth to attending school — has led to Australia's first-ever PDA conference, to be held in Perth in November.

I love being outdoors in the sunshine surrounded by plants, trees, and all things nature. However, sometimes, especially during winter, it's not possible to spend much time outdoors. Lucky for me, an extremely generous extended family member (with a very green thumb) has gifted me some lovely indoor pot plants. They are now helping to bring some freshness and calm into the Seen and Heard Psychology clinic!
