Are you okay? Make sure to check in on your family and friends today (and any day). Mental health is so important and not discussed often enough. Try to look after your own mental health and help others to look after theirs.

Jean Hailes for Women's Health week is always a good reminder for women to check in on their health. Juggling mum life and work means women often ignore signs and symptoms - this is your reminder to put yourself first and get any issues looked into!

It's day 3 of Jean Hailes for Women's Health week and the theme is - Pain to Power

1. Always advocate for yourself - if something doesn’t feel right trust your instincts, get a second or third opinion if needed. Ensure your age-appropriate health checks with your GP are up to date which can help flag issues before they become more serious.

2. There is no one-size-fits-all all approach to pain and everybody’s pain is different. Often trialling a mix of therapies helps, which may include medications, surgery, lifestyle changes, physiotherapy, acupuncture, relaxation/mindfulness and/or natural supplements.

3 .Don’t underestimate the importance of a positive mindset when dealing with any disease. Your mind and body are inextricably linked and it helps to focus on positive steps toward healing (although it’s fine to have bad moments/days/weeks - we’re only human!)

4. Set realistic goals - aim for improvements in pain and function, but don’t think about it as all or nothing and needing a 100% cure. It's about getting you feeling as good as you can and appreciating the little wins which all make up the big picture.

As a dietitian who works in this space I am so pleased to see Dietitians Australia advocating for our role. I have seen first hand the difference between people who use GLP-1s on their own versus those who use them with proper dietetic input and support.

It’s Women’s Health Week this week which is the perfect time to remind everyone that one of the most important factors in ageing well is looking after your bone health.

Bone density is strongly linked to your risk of a fracture.

I often discuss the concept of aiming for 30 different plants across the week with my patients. Some simple ways to increase your variety - using salad bags - they are an easy way you can get 4 or 5 different vegetables, choosing mixed nuts instead of a single variety, or the option I’ve signed up for this week is getting a fruit and vege box delivered - it’s sure to offer me at least a couple of things that aren’t in my regular rotation!

While 30 is a meaningful target, small, sustainable changes will also have a lasting impact on health.

Breakfast is a very personal choice, and I don’t always have it, but when I’ve got a busy day ahead I always like to have something. This is my go to quick breakfast - a high protein yoghurt, sprinkle of low sugar granola and a few berries.. didn’t even have to dirty a bowl!

I’m trying to focus in increasing my Onega 3 intake. The easiest, most budget friendly way for me to do this is aiming to gave salmon for lunch 2-3 days per week.
